Question Leo's absorbing eggs??

Has anyone had a gravid leo absorb its eggs?
I have a female that I was almost positive she was getting ready to lay.. had 2 perfect ovals showing, and she looked like a little leo balloon.. She never laid, just eventually went back to her normal size within 2 days after being huge for 2 weeks. She was pooping and eating just fine. I've never had this happen while breeding before.

Maby she didnt absorb them, but ate them after she layed. Im not even sure if they can absorb eggs seeing as they have nothing to break them down with. Good question though maby someone else will know.

I thought of the possibilty of her eating them but wasnt sure.. hmmm.. food for thought for me..
I've been breeding them for over a year, and have never had anything unusual like this happen.
Thanks for your input!

I know this may sound strange, but did you check the entire enclosure? Often females get lazy and lay thier eggs where ever they like. Though it is possible that she ate them, I have only ever heard of this happening once before. They do not absorb thier eggs though.

...

Once the eggs actually becomes an "egg" and is moved into the oviduct, I don't see how its possible to "absorb" it. Not anatomically anyways.

I'm with Jeff, females can obsorb follicules but not an egg. They either have to lay it or die from it being stuck inside. Either way if it's an egg it has to come out it can not possibly be absorbed.
Cheers,
Trevor

Good question Ammi,

I had the same thing happen once and I was wondering where the hell was the egg

She must have ate it.

My mystery is resolved.

I've checked her enclosure several times, cleaned it, and dug through the hide box.. no eggs anywhere.
Thanks for answering my question on absorbing.. i've wondered this on several occasions.
Thanks!!!!
