Question Perlite or Vermiculite??

I've heard that, new studies about vermiculite, found that is inapropriate as breeding material for herps (too much asbestos in its synthesis)...
What do you believe? And what is the best mixing that worked for you?

Jeff;
So does that mean that you are keeping the incubator @ 100%
humidity and using an stryafoam egg crate to nest the eggs in?

I found this site w/ info http://www.vermiculite.net/
I also found this http://www.starkhealth.org/archives/vermiculite.htm
From the reading, asbestos must be inhaled to have negative effects. Therefore if it is kept moist, it shouldn't be a problem.

In addition to this, the only mine that produced contaminated vermiculite was shut down in 1990. I can guarantee you the vermiculite being sold commercially now was NOT packaged prior to 1990. It's perfectly safe and has been in use in this hobby for decades without an issue.

Thank you , Invictus. This has become urban legend material after the media took the story and ran with it. I use vermiculite exclusively as you can't see mould forming on perlite until its too late.
