Question What is your favorite herp?

This is an easy discussion for anyone to take part in. I would like to know what is your favorite herp? Why it is your favorite? And include your favorite picture of the species if possible.

My all time favorite is the Green Anaconda. (Eunectes murinus) I have been captivated by the anaconda since I was a small child. The anaconda is the last true serpentine man eater. It is credited with lengths of 30 feet and weights of 500 pounds, but there are unproven but documented accounts of specimens of 43 feet and 1000 pounds. The anaconda is worshiped as a god in South America and the basis of amazing folk lure, songs, stories, and art. The Sucuriju Gigante, basically a South American reptile version of big foot is claimed to be over 100 feet long. Many have claimed to have seen it and one very questionable picture exists. But regardless of the legend, the true anaconda is by all means a creature to be admired.

I've tried to figure out what my favorite is, but I just can't. I love corns for their docility and "personality". I love Indigos for their intelligence and beauty. I love boas for their power and beauty. I guess all I can say is that I love snakes! I prefer them to lizards or amphibians any day.

I like corns as well. Most people keep and breed for color. I like size. We have a female pushing 6 feet. I am hoping to get a large male corn to breed her back with.

This is actually a very tough question for me to answer. Out of my collection I would say my burmese python is my all time favorite because she's so gentle and beautiful... everyone loves her. I even let my little 7 year old cousin hold her, but with assistance of course.

If I could have any reptile in the world it would most likely be something like a dwarf crocodile, feas viper, or some kind of really extremely expensive snake like an albino retic *drools* or something super-duper rare. I also really like gaboon vipers and a lot of venomous and fat-bodied snakes. But honestly, I can't choose just one... I like them all

My favorite herp that we keep...well there are 3 in particular that stand out Elvira the albino burm Ryan bought me as an engagement present, and Fortune the diamond python I bought him as a wedding gift. Tied for third is Timber, an old northern pine snake we use for education, and our newest addition to the educational display, a patternless albino burm I call Apollo

My all time favorite that is my holy grail is the Boelens python
Ryans favorites are somewhat different

I'm with you Sheila, Boelens for sure on snakes.
And for a lizard a huge aviary with a group of little Draco flying around would be real cool.

My all time favorite reptile is this beautiful creature! I will never keep HOTS 'cause I think they are hot for a reason, but I envy those who keep these. They are so amazingly colored and more with such grace! *sighs deeply* *smiles*

But as for what I breed, I love all my little leos! They are all so different from each other and I love how the little guys scream at you if you look at them the wrong way! I always know when the newbies have hatched cause when you walk by the incubator you can hear them! LOL

I love Anaconds as well. I think they are beautiful and they have a certain mystique about them. They are legendary. But my favorite is my Albino Burm Blair. She is the ultimate gentle giant. She only bit once since I got her as a hatchling and that was the first day I got her. She is a real beauty.

This is a hard one to answer, Sheila wanted me to answer.

If you asked me which of our snakes I would cry the most if they died, it would be a toss up between Elvira (12' Albino Burm) and Timber (Northern Pinesnake).

Those are our definite best educational snakes - and the ones I feel I "know" the best, and know me the best. Unfortunately Timber is 14 years old (Northern Pinesnake) and I'm sure nature will one day take it's course - and he will be gone.

Favorite snake species that I can think of while stitting here are burms (for their gentle nature), Indigo's, hognose, - man this is tough.

Snakes that I would some day like to keep - King Cobra. I won't be keeping venomous any time soon, but if we ever decide there is a purpose in us keeping venomous snakes at the zoo, and I find someone very qualified that can make me their apprentice... I would one day love to have a King Cobra in a floor to ceiling, and very large cage - to just admire on days when I need inspiration.

Snakes we keep that I really want to breed in the future (beside the indigo's) are the diamond python. Just yesterday I talked to Don - and I am really pumped about diamonds at the moment.

For favorite snakes- I love my Mandarins! My Taiwan Beauty is a keeper though... He's so mellow- till the rats appear!

Favorite critters of the past, I still miss my Chinese Crocodile lizard (Shinisaurus Crocodilurus). Got him in 1989 when no one knew what he was ($35.00!) and raised him up to be a sassy guy. I gave him to a zoo to start a breeding project in '92 and still have regrets... One day I'll get a pair and add to the captive population.

I've mainly kept rat snakes and other colubrids (a few boids here and there) but the award for best tempered snake goes to the Central American Black Tail Cribo! He was just special. Maybe I'll try Indigo's one day- they're on the list!
