Different morphs in carpets??

Hi guys

I've been out of the breeding game for about 8 years or so and I'm slowly returning to the hobby.

Can any one help me out with the different carpet morphs now available and average perspective prices?

For example, Jags are a coastal morph but now I'm seeing it in Jungles? Was it crossed over to the point where people don't consider the coastal in their jags?

Have a look at the UK pythons website. There's some useful info on there regarding morphs and they're right at the cutting edge of what's what.

Good luck finding pure carpets Dominic...jag has been crossed into everything and there are very few subspecies/localities around anymore. It's very much a morph game now. As far as current prices go I couldn't tell you. I think Jeff Favelle still has some pure stuff but it really is few and far between.

The jag morph has been cross bred with every subspecies of carpet nowadays. It's all still from the coastal jags so every jag is at least partially coastal. I think pure carpets can be found but it takes some digging. Some large breeders have spent decades with the same lines and work hard to keep them pure.

Jags can be cheap. I've seen some as low as $100 while a beautiful Diamond Jungle Jag with the right genetics goes for over $1,000. Axanthic coastals are around. Caramel Coastals are all over. Zebra Jungles are pretty neat looking. Granite carpets as well. I would check kingsnake for price ranges on morphs.

I remember reading a forum discussion in which it was said that the jag gene actually came out of the IJ carpets but was attributed to the coastals by Australian owners that got the gene in the country using less than acceptable importation methods. So how's that for a fun morph conspiracy theory?

As for the morphs that I'm aware of, there are albinos (usually associated with Darwin's), caramels (usually coastals and crosses), zebras, and granites (usually IJ). There could be more but I think that most other "morphs" are actually just references to the species involved in the pairing.

Can't comment on Canadian pricing. In the states most young carpet morphs go for $150-$250, though the albinos (especially pure Darwin's) go for $1000+.
