Re: rescuing a red tail boa
When mine was 3.5ft he was in a 115 qt tub, roughly 3'x2' or so (I no longer have it so I can't give exacts), he was moved there when he was maybe 2.5ft. Once he hit 5 or 5.5ft I moved him on to a 6'x3'x'2' homemade wooden enclosure. He's now just over 6' and will be able to make use of this for rest of his life. That being said, he could probably have made do in a 4'x2' for a little while longer, as although he's over 6' it's only by a few inches. He'll still be growing for a few more years, though, so I doubt a 4'x2' would last his whole life.
It also depends on how you determine what size suites what size of snake. I personally go by the Length+Width rule, but some people go by the LengthxWidth rule, and I've even seen people say just the length should be the same as the snake's length. These are all just minimums, though, you can make your enclosure however large you want to.
