Shedding

So my female bci has just shed and whole to so must be doing something right

Just wondered weather you take it out of the enclosure straight away or leave in for a short period? Only asking as she is courting at this time, I did remove the male today and was going to leave him out for a few days as he seemed to have lost interest.
What do you do?

Re: Shedding

Take it out...I don't see any reason to leave it in there.

Re: Shedding

I personally remove sheds as soon as i realize them because with humidity i have seen some weird funky green mold grow inside them if not removed. When my boas set up for a shed I make sure to inspect every day their hides n such to remove them when they come off.

Re: Shedding

omg no lol if you are planning on putting him in there sheds are very very important for breeding they are very smelly and this will entice the male more

She ovulated on the 27th then in the blue 4 days ago.
They have been together for about 4 months the last owner had the housed together I have had them for a month I got a new viv so they are separated at present as he lost interest. should I put it back in?

Re: Shedding

I would feed him, then put him back in give him 3 days in there if he just hangs out its probably bc the job is done. males will want nothing to do with her if she is gravid, but also get tired so he could be taking a break. it sounds like you totally saw a ovulation though, offer her a small meal as well she may eat Ive had boas eat all the way through but normally they refuse. I use a marker and put a line for a fill line on the water bowl fill the bowl everyday if gravid her water intake will double and she will sit on her heat pretty religously

Re: Shedding

I actually keep sheds of adult females for breeding season, I keep them rolled put them in a air tight container lol if I get a male that's working a bit half assed I grab a shed dip it in hot/warm water to get the small stronger "fresh" and throw it in there with the courting couple. The guys love that

Re: Shedding

The male ate a large rat today I tried the female but she refused but that was before shed. The water did drop on the 28th and I change it every 2 days.
Should ii put the shed back in now or when ii put the male back?

Re: Shedding

you can put it in when you return him just keep it in a Ziploc baggy or something and wet it before you replace it

Re: Shedding

Wow, I don't breed so I was not aware of how much the shed would do. This has been a very interesting thread!
