Unhappy Help with JCP please !!!!!

My son dropped off his adult Carpet Python and cage to me 2 days ago. He had to move out of where he was, so i have the snake for now. He's acting fine but wont eat. It had been 10 day since he ate when my son dropped him off, Now 12 days, I've offered him food several times over the last 2 days F/T large rat, which is what hes been eating without issues. Now the snake is starting to get the faded milky tone to his skin so i'm sure he will be shedding soon. So my question is, Is he refusing to eat due to the combination of the move and the upcoming shed? even though hes still in his own cage (I know new smells, people surroundings etc.), or should i be concerned that there maybe some underlying reason? Oh, He is usually fed every 7-10 days, but where he is at 12 days now of not eating How long untill i should be pulling my hair out due to worry??? Thanks for any help you can offer

Re: Help with JCP please !!!!!

Stop worrying

12 days without food is like you missing an afternoon snack

You need to stop offering food, give it a week at least to settle into its new environment and then offer food as normal. By then he should also have shed and will most likely be ready to eat

Oh, and welcome to the forum

Make sure your temps and humidity are correct as well. If they are then everything should be fine, like Rob said , give it time. 12 days is not much.

Re: Help with JCP please !!!!!

as long as his hot end temps are correct...

then it could be one of,or a combination of the following, moving, coming up to a shed and breeding season

i would offer prey once every 10 days, only going near him to change his water

please don't worry about the length of time mate...

ive had a hatchling not eat until 10 months old,i have carpets i only feed 6 month of the year, the rest of my carpets,in winter i only offer 3 or 4 meals

unless a carpet starts to lose a lot of weight fast, then you have nothing to worry about imo

cheers shaun

Re: Help with JCP please !!!!!

10 - 100 days feed interval... a healthy Carpet python would be fine.
