Candoia carinata (Pacific ground boas)

I recently received some of these stunning snakes and thought I'd share some pics with you guys.

very nice mate, im sure your well pleased with them, i know i would be. i have no personal experience with these guys but i know a girl who is currently working with some candoia sp and from what i am told they are a very delicate snake and dont do that well in captivity. she has lost a couple i think, one female during giving birth to 5 slugs. and her other female produced 4 viable young but i think and 3 dropped dead for no apparent reason, one is still hanging in there i think, havnt spoke to her in a while.

i dont know how experienced you are but from what im told expect a few sleepless nights lol.

not sure about linking other forums fo i can PM you a link if you like to the other forum where there is a dedicated thread to these guys, basically this girls ups and downs working with these. makes a very interesting read on the species.

Wow, they're not the most colorful snakes but their patterns are amazing and their head shapes are very different. Cool critters for sure!

Ding Ding, that sounds about right. I have one that stresses me out to no end. She will randomly go off food, then she will eat again, then regurg, then eat (no parasites, proper temperatures).

Are you sure those are C. carinata x and not C. bibroni x? I'm having a hard time telling without a full-body shot, lol

@ding ding, it would be great if pm'd me the link. As for experience, I do have a lot but this will me first try with Candoia sp, so every bit of extra reading/information helps a lot.

@CDN Blood, they were imported as Candoia carinata carinata but even I'm not 100% sure what they are. I'll post some full-body shots later if you want ?

I'll keep the thread updated on their progress; I have 12 of these so I might have more than just one sleepless night by the sound of it lol...

To me it looks more like a C.b.bibroni, but then again, I may have mixed-up my meds again...I like to throw them all in a bag and go with the luck of the draw just for kicks :P

It's clearly very young, so it'll change as it grows, but I'm thinking it's head is too slender for a C.c.carinata (carinata tend to have quite wide heads), and the fact that you can even hold it also makes me think it's not a ground boa, but rather the tree boa counterpart. I have yet to see a C.carinata that even *remotely* resembles a happy snake that's willing to let itself be handled like that, regardless of it's size or age, lol.

As for the feeding issues and other things that are common to the ground boas in the Candoia family, that's all part of the territory and it's to be expected. Fortunately for me, the tree boa members of the Candoia family don't come with the same issues at all and they're truly pleasant little things to work with. I think they're so social and care-free because they decided to take to the trees just to get away from their irascible ground boa cousins and found life to be good after that, lol. Let's hope all of yours turn out to be great snakes that are worry-free

It's next to impossible to find quality information on Candoia bibroni and their subspecies, but I do know of a blog that you may find helpful if you determine that they're bibroni rather than carinata...

Hi, I have 2.3 Candoia carinata carinata. Very easily to handle, and they look proportionally very similar to yours. Two are Waigeo type localities received from Jerry Conway. Four I have taking rodents, one will still only take frogs/lizards.

Personally, I'm looking for 2-3 more males, so if you can let me know where you got them, I'd appreciate it.
