Lack of Tub Space... Possible Solution?
Ok this is the situation. We dont have enough tub space for our snakes and we've been temporarily housing Gandalf, the '08 male Dum with Arwen, the bigger of the 2 '07 females together. We figure its breeding season anyway so this seemed like a short term fix. Anyway, Popeye, our '02 male Dum is horny as can br and is looking for relief in that area and Gandalf is too young. We were thinking about switch Popeye and Gandalf so that way Popeye could be with Arwen and do his thing. Problem is tub size. That rack holds 4 tubs that are 37 qt each. Another possibility is putting Popeye back in with Black Betty who is by far the biggest we have but she is in a 6' Neodesha enclosure, so there is way more room. Problem there is that he was such an eager breeder last year that she had enough of him and attacked him when she had enough. Should I try to put him back with her and see if he'll try to make his moves on her?
Snake ages and sizes:
Black Betty- '02, 27 lbs and 9 1/2' long
Popeye- '02, 10 lbs and 5 1/2' long
Arwen- '07, 9 lbs and 5' long
Gandalf the Grey- '08, 3 lbs and 3 1/2' long
I think thats all the relevant info. If I can think of more I will be sure to post it.

If you want to have baby dums and who wouldn't!! I would watch close..just to make sure you don't have a repeat of last year events.

Re: Lack of Tub Space... Possible Solution?
I know I need a new rack and that will solve all the problems. In the meantime until I can come up with the funding and the right rack, I face these dilemmas. The rack I want is just like the 4 shelf AP rack I currently have, shown in the first pic. Animal Plastics is what we use and what Im thinking about is a T3 AP Cage that looks similar to the second pic. It would be great to have the funding for both but I really need to get this dilemma resolved ASAP.

I agree, which is why I am reluctant to put him back up there.

That would solve the space issue, as you can see but again, I am reluctant to put him up there, all things considered.

The other problem is that they might get along! If you don't have enough space now, a bunch of babies is sure not going to help.

Re: Lack of Tub Space... Possible Solution?
Dum babies can always be sold and I will get another rack soon. I was just trying to come up with a short term temporary solution in the meantime. Our new roommate Brian does have a baby rack so I dont think that would be a problem if it ever got to that.

Re: Lack of Tub Space... Possible Solution?
Ok for now, I will keep Popeye by himself and Arwen will be by herself since there is not enough room for the two of them to be together but Gandalf the Grey will be with Miss Piggy since both are younger and smaller. Gandalf is an '08, 3 lbs and 3 1/2' long and Miss Piggy is an '09, 2 1/2 lbs and 3' long. Maybe next weekend I will try putting Popeye back up to Black Bettys Neodesha and see what happens.

Re: Lack of Tub Space... Possible Solution?
I am severely wrench and hammer challenged. I wish I had the skills necessary to get that done. Im thinking about going to Animal Plastics next week after I get paid and just ordering a new one. It will take about 5 weeks but apparantly that is less time than waiting to find one on Craigslist.

Re: Lack of Tub Space... Possible Solution?
There is a guy with a 7 tub 41qt ap rack in wyoming on CL but he wont get back to me....
Aw it would be a good experience for you, measure twice cut once. I'd use a drill instead of hammer and wrench and if you make all your measurements ahead of time they can cut it all for you at the store. I think you might be able to get pre-measured racks lists on the internet or someone here could help. I think if they make it I would go for half inch melamine instead of quarter so its easier to drill in the center for shelves and hopefully it wont split as much or any. I really want a 10 tub rack from AP but I'd rather extinguish some small debt first.
