Re: a few of my picture galleries..

In the wild, Garter snakes eat primarily fish, earthworms, newts, frogs, tadpoles & toads.

We as keepers "train" them to take a rodent diet.

I keep frozen fish in my freezer as a treat for them.

Here is a picture taken in my back yard, This is pure nature, How lucky was I to walk up on this??

I would never feed wild toads to my pet snakes, too much risk of parasites.

This girl can take down a whole mouse...

Wow! Sweet picture! Was that toad still alive? Where I live I never see snakes. It stinks! I see them maybe once during the summer.

Re: a few of my picture galleries..

Sounds cruel, but garter snakes swallow whole prey live, they do not constrict like other snakes.

They just gulp it down, I have seen live fish still flopping about while inside the snakes belly.

Hahahahaha! Thats got to be funny. You would think I would see them more because I live near a lake. But no I never see them. People on my street see them all the time. And I never find them.

Re: a few of my picture galleries..

I included a link to the thread I started.

That is an eastern garter snake, Thamnophis Sirtalis Sirtalis of the "Flame" variety.

This colouration is traced back to a colony of high red garters in Canada, then selectively bred to obtain the purest red pigments.
