macklots pythons

i think macklots are beauitufl, they dont seem to be very popular atleast around here. i very rarely even see them at reptile shows. the pet store i use to work at and still buy every thing from has had 2 for a very long time, probably because there almost $200 and pretty nippy. im having quite a problem finding info about these guys on the web, does any one here have them or have any experience with them? would be great to know some things and then ill know if im truly interested in them. thanks for any help.

I have some experience with Macklotts. Parting with my pair was one of the hardest things I've ever done, because I lucked out and got a super docile pair. They never once even attempted to strike at me. This is, in my opinion, the most underrated python species on earth. Most people can't get past the jeuvenile nippiness, but a docile adult is an absolute JOY to work with.

Care is pretty easy. Treat them as you would any other python species really, basking spot in the high 80s/low 90s, and ambient temp 77-82. Keep the humidity high - 60% is usually pretty good for them.

thank you very much. if i were to get them it wont be for a LONG long time, i just like to know something about as many reptiles as i can and i know nothing about macklotts. though i do think they are beuatiful and its a shame they arnt more common.

Hey,

I have 2 macklots, they are actually really tame (maybe i just had luck on my side when i bought them), they eat just about anything that smells like bird or rats and yeah, as invictus already said, they are super hardy and would thrive on you on just regular python care. I also have a pic of my female in my gallery so you can check that out.

I have a pair right now. Also look for "freckled python" when you do your web searches. Same thing. My female is a little nippy, but once I get her out she's fine. The male that I'm fostering is 7' long and puppy dog tame. Care is pretty easy. They are excellent climbers so I recomend a little height and some sturdy branches. I've never heard of one that had eating problems. My male fasted for a month this year but it turns out he had mites. My female will eat anything anytime. My friends think they are plain, but I think they are absolutely beautiful.

a friend of mine had one he was selling at the repitle show yesterday in ohio, she was about 5 feet i would say and was really calm i held her for 10 - 15 mins. nice snakes
