GARY:
Exorcist 1, the very first....more because I was about 11-12 and watched it alone on Halloween night. So far nothing compares or just doesn' t affect me in this genre of movies.

Yummy...I love the exorcist, such punctuality in its deliverance of horrid macabre wonders. Im a sick twisted sadistic little maggot pie....Heeheeheehee. What i loved about that movie was its fear striking qualities. That movie really spun my head no pun intended.
Exorcist three had me wailing in tears...the movie was like a common dollar theater sellout...so horribly terrible it made my blood curdle and my flesh rub raw with disgust.

He ask about Modern movies. For originality a lot of the Japanese films have some great original ideas. Saw was great.
Julie rented little black book. That was HORRIFIC!
I think Dark Water is going to blow all the new films away it looks like it has a serious creep factor going on.

We have the original Japanese version of Ju-on (The Grudge). It is absolutely the scariest movie I've seen.
If you like gore, Dead Alive is a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
And I have to disagree about Exorcist 3 - I thought it was excellent. Especially considering how little violence is shown onscreen. I watched Exorcist 4 recently, though, and thought it was crap.

I would have to say the Grudge for the modern horrors. But, I still think the classics are the best!
The Changeling
The Omen
The Exorcist
Black Sunday
Amityville Horror
The Entity
I am a huge horror fan - I could go on and on..............

well, it isn't really all that modern, nor is it really all that scary - but i would have to say Evil Dead 2. bruce campbell was hardcore in that one.

Favorite recent horror is The Ring, I liked The Grudge but thought The Ring was better. Still havent' managed to get a hold of the Japanese originals for either but intend to.
As for classic scared me the most.........I still have never seen all of the Excorsist, the first one. I used to watch every scary movie ever and when that one came out I watched it from under a pillow!! LOL, I haven't gotten around to actually watching it since!!

I know it may not be a true horror film but I have to go with Saw on this one, first horror/suspense/thriller that I've enjoyed in a long long time.
Exorcist will always be right at the top of my list of all time favourites though along with another horror/thriller type Silence of the Lambs.

Sorry a list of others that I liked
Wrong Turn, Thirteen Ghosts, Ghost Ship (the opening scene makes it all worthwhile), Sixth Sense, New Nightmare, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the new one, never saw the old one).
I prefer Horror scary to Horror Gory. A good horror will scare you $hitle$$ without having a bunch of blood and guts for gross factor.
There are way more but it is late and I'm tired!! LOL

The opening scene of Ghost Ship was great.
As for me, Japanese horrors like Ringu, the Grudge, and the Eye are some of the scariest for me... but then again I'm afraid of the dark, so most horror movies make me double check my locks.
Thirteen Ghosts and House on Haunted Hill were surprisingly scary with the visuals, but getting to see James Marsters in a teeny film roll was worth it
Gothica was great too. Movies about mental hospitals and zombies (28 Days Later) are the also some that I find scary... don't like those zombies.

Yeah 28 days later was some good shhtuff, I'm not a huge fan of the gory ones either, they usually add some comedy to it all though, but I just don't find it scary. Way too unrealistic to be scary. The Ring was good. Cabin fever was cheezy, but I liked it.
Too late and too drunk to think of any others, I'll let you know in the morning! LOL!
