what size to breed for a male

My leopard gecko male is about 36g...if the female is 45g (by then the male will probably be 40ish) is he ready to breed..either way? Whats the recommended weight for a male to breed....are their any threats toward an underage/weight male breeding a female?

The male is breedable at around 35-40grams in weight. Females should be held off to breeding until they are 50grams+.
This weight will help them out greatly in their breeding season.
I have found that the smaller they are, the less eggs they throw out in the season, as well as they battle with their weight. I breed my males as early as 40grams, and females at around 55/60grams.
Hope this helped,
-Sam

I bought a 40 gram blizzard at a reptile show and the only reason it was 40 grams was because it was gravid...... She laid 8 eggs through out the season and six eggs were bad...... That is way too small for a leo to be bred...... She had major problems putting weight back on...... Now a season later and she is doing fine and I have opted not to breed her this season...... She will be ready by next season.......

So then i think im gonna have to weight about 3 or more months until she is 45+ or even 50 by then...she is about 38 (measured on a food scale lol) and how long do you think it will take to add 12 or so grams?

Will a change in diet (she is unfortunently a picky eater) will help her gain some weight more quickly? All she really eats is some crix, meal worms and the beatles they turn into..i havnt seen her eat much else...

It takes me one month to put 10-15grams on my leos. I feed them mealies.
Mealies help add more weight on to them much quicker than when feeding them crickets.
You can try mealworms or even silkworms, both can be used as staple diets. Haven't seen many leos turn down silkworms.
Hope this helped,
-Sam
