sounds perfect! just keep a constant eye on the temps, sounds like you might be over doing it on the heat! the shows on the 22nd, congrats on the new snake!

Get a digital thermometer and keep the temps at a decent range. Hoggies temp requirements are pretty much like a corn's. 10gal would be fine for a male hog through it's lifetime (they don't get very big) but an adult female would probably be better in a 15-20gal. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. I've got a male who looks almost big enough to be a female.

Would a male western hog be okay in a sterilite that is 17x11x6? What's the average adult length of a male? a female?

Steup sounds good, if i were you id just get rid of the heat lamp, the hot side needs about 85-90 and i think most heat pads reach about 100-120, so id just use a pad and a dimmer, thats what im going to do for my hoggies, im getting mine the twenty first, YAY.

Im getting a pair of red phase, He-Man and Zelda will be thier names! sorry to brag, this has been my dream snake for 12 years, and im FINALLY getting some

Congrats, I would go with either the lamp or the heat pad, not both, someone already said their heating requirements are like a corns, get a digi thermometer for correct temps, and a lamp dimmer or a rheostat (lamp dimmer is so much cheaper) for controlling the temps. Do your research, ask how they were fed, as in do they take live, off the tongs? Since you have a loose substrate you will have a bowl or something to put him in to feed him, he will probably come with a deli cup and you can use that for feeding........
Have fun! They are one of the cutest snakes! lol if you can, get some pics, I have never seen the "Red phase" ones.

how much is a digi thermometer what do they look like i have the one where its a strip. i was only going to get a small one that would raise the temp maybe 10 degrees and then have the over tank heater for light and additional basking heat, or do they even need to bask?
