just a quick question ,my daughters leos laid 2 eggs this morning so i removed them from the tank and placed in a small container with moistened vermiculite, and have the temp at 87,i dont know much about leos as am a snake person if anyone has any tips that would be great thanks Carpetman
What are you using to incubate the eggs? Was the female with a male? Sometimes leos can lay infertile eggs. What do you plan to do with the babies when they hatch? Leos can live as long as 25 years so it's good to have a plan. You wont be able to keep the babies with their mother when they hatch until they have grown to about the same size as her. Incubating at 87 will likely result in males and you can't keep two males together so that's another factor. Drop the temp slowly to 80-82 if you'd rather have females. Otherwise, keep them moist, don't bug the eggs too much and keep the temp as constant as possible for two months and soon you may see some gecko babies! Oh, sometimes the first clutch of eggs is infertile so don't be too disappointed if the eggs rot. Also make sure the mother is getting good nutrition. It takes a lot out of them to lay eggs so proper gutloading of insects and dusting with calcium/vitamins is essential. Finally, don't be surprised if she lays a clutch every 10-14 days, and don't feel you have to incubate all of them. I had 6 babies hatch and I still have 4 I don't know what to do with and they are almost 8 months old now. Good luck!
Thanks for the info, she bought them at the reptile show in Nov,as a breeding pair, from people in Ottawa,we have them in vermiculite, and the temp at 87,we will see what happens,, Thanks
At that temp you could get males or females. It will probably take about 45-55 days for those eggs to hatch! Congrats to your daughter. Be sure the vermiculite isn't too moist. If it is the eggs will mold. Do you have them in an incubator? Good luck
