Possible punchered muck glan.
I visited a guy’s collection tonight to offer tips and advice, as he is a novice. He had two ball pythons that were sold to him as a pair. I've probed lots of snakes and popped even more. Nothing like what happened to night has ever happened to me before. I rolled my thumb up the tail of the supposed male to find out that it was a female. The small musk glands showed them selves very easily. When I rolled my thump up the others tail, the one that was supposed to be the female, the small opening to the hemipen or musk gland showed it self then brown puss like substance started to ooze. So much so that I had to wipe it off with a Kleenex. I'm just wondering if this is some sign of infection that is consistent with a tore musk gland from being probed too deep during sexing. I've popped many sperm plugs in males before and this was not dried seminal fluid it was wet and brown.
Any thoughts,
Trevor

Sounds like an infection from a puncture. Tell the individual to getit to a vet because there will be serious problems that will arise if action isn't taken swiftly.

Well when I've cleaned out my snakes cage and picked up the poo (with gloves of course, and wrapped in paper) when it was squeezed it had brown liquid come from it, the same as what I saw came from my male bp......I've also noticed that if I see the brown goo (when I check his vent, I regularly (sp??) check the spurs and scales) come out, I notice that the next couple of days he does #2......so....maybe it was that.....just my thought/idea/opinion.......

If the smell bothers you, rub vicks under your nose, better than holding your breath lol.
I don't think it's the same thing in this case Sapphire.

I thought musk glands in most Boids did not produce musk but just produced a scent for breeding season... :s

Trevor,
I've never seen brown musk come from any animal. It's typically clear to yellowish.
Andy,
LOL tell that to my boids. My Jamaicans musk me regularily, and you should see the puddle a short-tail will leave
