Q. about baby corns

I new at breeding corns and have had 2 out of 9 babies born with a few kinks in the lower part of their body. Are these babies ok or will they have to be put to sleep??? One of them is a great eater. I haven't sold any of the ones with kinks because i don't want to sell bad snakes to anyone. thanks for any help with this.

don't sell or breed them, other than that it's your decision whether to keep them alive.

that's what i thought also just wanted to double check my self. Is it passed down through genes or did they not develop all the way. and is this common in corns?

I don't breed corns but my corn snake had a kink. Weather I didn't notice it or it developed after I bought it...I don't know.

I don't know why but I can't see the kink anymore (6-8 months later). Maybe because my corn has put on a lot of weight since then or maybe it's acctually gone. Maybe it was just fatty deposits to start with....???

She has been my best eater and is a healthy & beuatiful snake. I suggest that you keep the kinked little snakes and see how they do.

I think the vote is still out on why corns get kinks. I think most larger breeders believe it has nothing to do with genes and more to do with temp spikes or slightly higher temps.

Although some also think it IS genes. I guess a good way to find out would be to try and get two kinks to breed and see what your outcome is. It sounds mean to play with lives that way (if kinked babies are born) but somebody has gotta do it!

I read a lot about kinked snakes and there was a big debate about weather it was caused by inbreeding or not. Some think that it is caused by inconsistant/impropper incubating temps.

I don't think i had a temp spike i incubated them at 81 F. I would check the incubator everyday but then again you never know. You cant be there at all times.

reptile dude i only had one leo die. (other than my 2 blind babies from last year) And that was because my vets at the time was misdiagnosing they were saying they had roundworms when they really had coccidia. So i belive if the one that passed away was given the right meds instead of the vets forcing her to take panacur then she would still be here with me today. I have not had any snakes at all die under my care nor become sick. This is something i'm sure breeders deal with quite often. But i could be wrong.

Hey Jamie. When you send my baby corn up I'd be more then willing to give a shot to one of those kinked babies as well. I agree that they should have a chance. I know your stock is healthy & well treated so they have the best possible chance of any. I'm so looking forward to my little fellows' arrival !! They are absolutely gorgeous !! Can't wait for my first import to arrive !!

you know i like abnormal snakes. The ones that are rescued and have been hurt or are born with kinks or have bad dispositions are the ones i want. Dont know why though the chance to heal up a nasty cut or just the chalange.
