sav monitors??
Hey, I was just curious as to what you feed your savannahs?? I have my two little guys on insects only. Also a pic of you savannah would be cool and if you tell me what you feed them, could you state the age also. Thanks
P.S.- if you could post the pic in this thread, not a "check in my gallery". I think people would enjoy viewing it in the thread, I know I do.

Savannahs eat insects all of their lives. Its actually really good exersize for an adult Savannah to go around chacing down huge crickets. Super worms are great for adults all their lives too. Of Course I don't mean feed them only insects. the do need meat, and eggs, and fish , and anything else your, your kids, your dog wont eat.lol Ok Not quite that much of a variety. Just really no prepared foods. Too high in fat. Savannahs get notoriously fat anyway.

Insects should make up about 80% of their diet for a majority of their life. Unfortunatly its hard to get "large" insects unless you have access to roaches, and I dont. So i usually feed crickets until they reach 3 feet (occasionally here and there otherwise too get them some excercise) Mealworms (all their life) rodents (once large enough to handle them) Once in awhile I feed them Seafood, meat and boiled/scrambled eggs. If you boil them, leave the shell on. They can also eat the odd lizard (i dont do this, but it can be done)

I simply stick to a full rodent diet with the occasionall hissers and eggs on the side..
over a foot .. only rodents for me..
Under proper husbandry .. savs should not get fat..

I've been feeding rodents since my sav was about 12'' long.Insects and pinkies before that. he also developed a taste for chicken hearts and gizzards for a short while.
right now he's a little on the plumper side because i'm giving him stuff that the other monitors wont eat (new monitors, acclimating still).. he's currently about 2.5 feet long.. had him since he was 5'' long.
time to feed the beast..

At the petstore, they have a small one and they feed it pinkies and crickets. SOMETIMES they will get mealies.
