Carpet stop eating

My carpet always ate small quails. Since they are small I was linking them to each other. 3 weeks ago I linked them in bad way so snake started eating and when first quail was in her mouth second didn't come. So snake had one quail in her mouth and tread linking to another quails. Snake start panic and try to escape. Tread was hindering her to escape. I went to take scissors but she left eaten quail and went to her hide.
It was 3 weeks ago. Yesterday she shed and didn't eat again.
Should I wait another week ?
thanks.

Re: Carpet stop eating

I'd wait a week or two and try again. Why do you string them together? Can't you just offer the 2nd prey item after she finishes the 1st?

I give 6 quails and after first she go to her hide. Plus she is shy eater. Almost never took food from tweezers.
Yesterday after I placed quails in her viv, take from hide and place her on branches. In 5 mins she went down to sniff every quail. After that she back to branches and lowered her head and part of body in strike shape and start starring at quails. That behavior was 3 times(weeks) already. Usually she starts eating quails after 2-3 rounds of sniffing all quails. She almost never strikes quails, it's looks like she takes quail carefully from a nest and runs away.

There is one thing. Yesterday while she was shedding she yawned at least 4 times. Can it be a bad sign ?

Re: Carpet stop eating

today I was in a market. Two women was selling live chickens to rise them and getting eggs.
So they give me two died very recently chickens. I used to feed my snake at night only. But today I awake her and give her first chicken ever. She didn't strike. Feed box gave nothing.
I have let her go to her branches and she went from branches to her hide. But I removed her hide and place there a chicken. She was keeping looking her hide but was sniffing a chicken a lot too. Then again was searching her hide and again sniffing. It was a lot times and finally she took a chicken in the middle. It was fail. She tried several times and finally found a head and ate it.

Re: Carpet stop eating

I'm glad she ate again for you kazz. Your girl looks pretty healthy though even if she doesn't eat much. You must be a very patient person. I can't imagine regularly feeding a snake more than 2 prey items at a time and then wondering if those will be wasted. If she wants to eat that sporadically you could offer her less food less often and perhaps she'll be more likely to eat whenever food is presented. You might try scaling her back to every 3-4 weeks and see if she improves. That's the schedule my albino carpet was on when she was younger and rarely eating. She's gotten more consistent and now she eats about every 2 weeks.

No. She was regular eater until last time I was describing at a topic. Though she strike twice for whole time. She was eating 30% of her weight food long time also. So size is not a problem.
I scale her and she is 500g+ and she is less 1 year.

Still refuses quails =/
It means snakes have a good memory. At least carpet pythons.

Re: Carpet stop eating

I am really confused. My snake had treatment so I had to put into her mouth a tube giving her a drug. It was 4 days ago. If it's really stressed her she should stay in her hide box but instead of this she is trying get out from her viv every night and refuse her food.

Re: Carpet stop eating

What kind of treatment was she on jazz? She just ate 2 weeks ago so that's no problem.

It was a treatment of coccidiosis: Trafigal 90mg/kg - 1st day + 5 days 45mg/kg.

She ate 2 times for more than a month and now refuses food. Usually she ate every 5-7 days. And it seems to me I can see her spine.

Did your snake get diagnosed with having coccidia? Your snake looks fine. You probably aren't used to seeing it without food in it's body. Nothing sounds or looks abnormal .Every 5 days ay that size and age is too frequent to feed as well in my opinion.

During treatment she defecated twice. First time excrement was a bit watery at the end of it. Second time excrement was full solid. As it was in the middle of treatment and it was solid there's no reason to test it.

She is almost 1 year. And last 2 month she ate every 7 days. Don't carpets grow until 4 years and should be feed every 5-7 days?

So you treated her "just in case" then?

I wouldn't be feeding a carpet of any age any more often than once a week.

I treated her bc death of coccidiosis among chicks is 90% and she ate a chicken with coccidia. I didn't want waiting until coccidia flood a snake and all her viv.
