Snake identification

Hey everyone,

New to the forum. I have a question about a snake I saw yesterday in North Texas. I believed it to be a water moccasin, but I'll let you be the judge of that (sorry the pic quality isn't very good—I took it with my phone).

Re: Snake identification

It is a Plainbelly Water Snake (Nerodia erythrogaster), harmless. These feed primarily on fish and amphibians. Nice find, thanks for sharing.

Re: Snake identification

Just so you know for future reference, water moccasins have facial pits and slit pupils. I think that is the snake described above.
