question for Grant
Hey Grant: He's a tad lighter than in the pics, but he is still almost as black as those pics show... it's crazy! I have a question for you... since he's already 9 lbs and 4 1/4 feet long, do you think he is ready for rabbits? I just fed him a large rat, and can barely see it in his girth. If you think he's ready, what size would be best? Another thing, I have him in a 30 gallon sterilite just as a temporary cage. I didn't know how big he would be since I've never actually kept a fat snake before, or a blood for that matter. What size cage would be appropriate for him? Thanks so much!

At 4 1/4 feet, he would do ok in a 3 x 2 enclosure, however, a 4 x 2 would be perfect as you will have just enough room for two hides on either side and a water bowl in the middle.
I dont use aquariums, but i would think 30 gallons is a bit too small for a 4+ foot blood. But its temporary.
When you do decide to go bigger, i would try using a wood or plastic cage, as big tanks get fairely pricy and heavy.
I dont feed any of my bloods rabbits, so i dont really have any experience with them. but at nine pounds, i doubt he could eat anything smaller then a newborn.
my 20+ pounders dont even get rabbits and they're big and healthy.
i just feed them a jumbo rat a week,

Have you see that big guy!!! Wow he look great and happy!
Yes 30gal is a bit small, for me i like that they can stretch, so
i'll give him a 4 X 2 feet but yes a 3 X 2 could be fine for now.

I was going to say the same exact thing that Grant did. I have never seen a black blood that incredibly black. Looks awesome. Could you post more pics when it is in more light?
