what snake is this?
found this snake the other day in the yard...haven't seen one like this before in my area, rhode island. did not provoke the snake in anyway, but it was certainly aggressive when we were near it.

it kind of looks like it might be a garter? I see some yellow on its sides and maybe looks liek checkers on its back, but really hard to tell with such a small pic...
