Exclamation Escape scare!

So I just got my 2 foot jungle a few weeks ago after years of begging my mom to let me get a snake. I ended up just buying it on kingsnake.com without telling her. Anyway, my mom freaks out if I have her out when she's around so I decided take her out for quality time after my mom went to bed, anyway, I put her on a philodendron leaf that I have in a vase om my coffe table in my living room because she likes to sit on it and I like to just look at her and appreciate her beauty while I watch tv. Anyway, about 2 hours of Everybody Loves Raymond later, I realize the leaf is bare and she's gone. Im freaking out because if my mom finds her first she's surely a gonner, and if she finds put a python is at large in her house, she would probably have an anxiety attack and stay with my aunt or somewhere until I find the snake. After an hour of ransacking my living room and having a panic attack, I realize I didn't check the empty vase on the coffee table two feet from where I left her. Sure enough, she was coiled up in there happy as a clam, on some .45 shells one of my dumb friends decided to pour in there after a day of shooting. Needless to say, that was a tremendous relief. I sure learned my lesson.

Glad you found her. Just a week ago I lost my russian ratsnake two times! I irresponsibly fell asleep with his sliding doors open and luckily he didn't make it too far and I found him in the closet. The other time I left his sliding door open again only this time I thought it would be okay since I was just washing his water bowl. Found him underneath the cage near the UTH. He's a very fast snake.

Re: Escape scare!

We have all had escapes or escape scares at some point when we were just starting with snakes. Please be careful man. You live in my country, and I will be held accountable as well if your neighbors ever report a 7' jungle carpet python that entered their house. I am not trying to give you a hard time or anything, i think its awesome that kids are still getting into this awesome hobby, and I am very glad you started with carpets- they are awesome. Just want you to know that the decisions or mistakes you make effect all of us, not just your mom and your snake.

Re: Escape scare!

I'm confused, you left her on the coffee table? in a vase? either way wow - if she's out of her securely locked enclosure, then she should be in your hands, with your complete attention.

Re: Escape scare!

Yes I completely understand where you guys are coming from and where I was irresponsible. As I said, I learned my lesson that she is not my chameleon that I can just leave on the ficus in my living room to give him some time out of the cage, and not worry about him. In fact I do this all the time with him. And as you said about other herper's screw ups affecting all of us, I totally know what you guys mean, especially living in Florida. This concept is also very prevalent in the gun hobby. Like how the A-holes that decide to commit mass shootings give the liberals stupid ideas about gun control. And to clarify I'm 18 about to start college. Not that it makes my screw up any better.
