It's a carpet thing... mine do that for a few days even after a big feed.
I have one that never seems to switch off from ambush mode.

Re: Great news

I only have a limited experience with my own as I got her as a rehome a few months ago and she's about 3-4 years old. I've heard of carpets having a feed mode that remains a day or so after feeding but mine doesn't do show it that often. I feed my girl every 2 weeks but I also take her out for frequent handling and exercise. She doesn't appear to be getting girth on her but she has grown a little in length.

Re: Great news

At a year old a 2-3 week feeding schedule is fine in my opinion. I do this for my guy but i do give him a BIG rat each time - probably 4+times his girth each time

Re: Great news

Congrats on the new snake! Carpets just have a high feeding response that only retics can beat, usually they are fine once out of their cage. I would expect to get tagged every now and then, snakes are the sharpest tools in the shed and sometimes mistake you for food but if you keep working with them, they will be a very rewarding species to work with.
