Corn Snake Fans MUST See This!!

I stumbled upon this photo of this corn snake, a "palmetto" corn snake. Now, I'm not big into colubrids in the first place, but this one simply left me speechless!! Wow!! Maybe I'm just late to finding out about the latest corn morphs, so maybe some of you already knew about this one, but... Check out this sexy snake!!!

You want something nuts, check out Tessera corns. they're going for 20 grand right now (and only 2 per season) because the breeder "doesn't want the market flooded", which sounds to my cynical ears like "I want the most money out of a dominant gene I can get"

Re: Corn Snake Fans MUST See This!!

same with these ones. $4000 each. only selling females so the market doesn't flood too fast (interpretation: I want to corner the market and charge 4K a pop as long as I can)

I just wonder what he's doing with all the males. There comes a point where even a large breeder will have waaaaaay too many palmetto males for his breeding program, and if he won't sell them, exactly what is he doing with them?? culling?? if so, that is NOT COOL!!

Tessera corns are expensive, but I think the Palmetto one is wayyyyy prettier and has way more "wow" factor

I've heard speculation that gender can be influenced in reptiles by varying their incubation temperature. Perhaps he's figured a way to get only females?

On the outside chance, but it's definitely a happier thought than culling.

Where are you getting this info? Tesseras are definitely not selling for anything remotely close to $20,000. They have been around long enough that plenty of people are working with them. You can purchase a regular Tessera corn for well under $1000 and the prices are only going to continue to go down as they become more popular.

Well, my face is sure red on this one!!

I'm glad you called me on my statement, as it is completely false! I thought I was remembering correctly, but I was actually remembering statements made by a certain breeder regarding Palmettos (not selling for a few years, only a few at a time, and $4000); said breeder has no statement regarding Tessera snakes on his website as of now.

Again, good catch...s'pose I owe you a Palmetto now, huh?

Re: Corn Snake Fans MUST See This!!

I'm not a corn guy at all but that one is amazing. I would get one of those in a heartbeat no question. I don't know if it would work but wouldn't that guy look awesome as a scale-less? Just a thought
