Rough scaled sand boa

Just a couple pics of my rough scaled sand boa, gongylophis (or eryx) conicus. He's about 5 years old or so and full grown at around 16". He's the only snake I have that isn't a garbage disposal; won't take more than a mouse a month.

Re: Rough scaled sand boa

Thanks, he has turned out to be a nice little snake. There's not a lot of information out there about them, it took some trial and error to figure him out. Prior to getting him I'd only kept colubrids so the whole boa metabolism was something to get used to.

He was actually the first snake I got after not having any for a couple years. My wife is not a fan of snakes and put a size restriction of 24" for any snake purchases. I found this guy, brought him home, and my daughter fell in love with snakes. Her desire for an albino kingsnake helped readjust that size restriction.

One of these days I plan to get a female for him but it'll be a little while... I can't believe what happened with prices on this species in the last couple years! Hopefully someone will find a morph and the price of normals will come back to earth.
