She sure is pretty.

The defensive behavior is typical for hatchlings. Especially t.s.infernalis hatchlings. They do calm down with varying degrees depending on the individual personality and handling sessions.

Hey this is my snake, (had to re open a new account, the last one messed up)...
To be honest, no she hasn't calmed down at all.. If anything her dramatics are worse but as has been said... It's totally worth it to keep something so striking in appearance. 😃

Re: Meet Bellatrix - my Californian red sided garter (sirtalis infernalis) :D
Hey Snake eyes, I bumped this thread to bring a perspective and light to one of the most sought after garters in the hobby/ industry. Grats! I plan to breed a couple of unrelated pairs later this year or early 2017.

Bella is a beauty!
I know you said she's a dramatic one... Do you handle her much, or is she more for display?
And are they out and about a lot in their enclosures?
... Very interesting...

Bellatrix is now named Diablo... Got probed as a male, his new girlfriend is Bellatrix 2 hahaha....
Yeah I handle her all the time, if your fast enough she only lands a couple of bites... She just doves everywhere with her mouth upon and flattens her head to scare me off.... Totally adorable in my opinion lol..
Yeah the species is diurnal so really active in the daytime. Always up to something lmao

She's a he now lol, but yeah definitely mate.... Proper feisty attitude to them both but that just makes them laughable as they barely break the skin.

Diablo is a beautiful boy. Aptly renamed
Since you got him a girlfriend, I'll be looking forward to pics of the little babies one day.
A feisty attitude on a smaller snake? No problem. LOL
