Pet Store Branches

Hi,
Do I need to treat any branches that I get from pet stores or can I just throw them in there? Thanks

You can just throw them in there but I recommend soaking them in 1 part bleach to 10 parts water for several hours and then in fresh water for several days (change the water every few hours).

If you have a herbicide and pesticide free area to harvest branches from then you should be fine to use them. I prefer to use grape vine, fruit woods (pear, cherry, apple, etc), and hardwoods. I don't typically do anything more than rinse off my branches, though I usually harvest them live or freshly fallen so I don't have to worry too much about bugs or fungus. If you are concerned about those things then you can also bake the wood.
