Re: Help with my first DIY? (Aquarium/vivarium combo)

I have to disagree. For me, the best gift is them pooping on their substrate and not near any objects/walls— the cleanup is even easier!

Anyway, snake poop/urate = ammonia = dead fish, hence the...

Re: Baby carpet python escaped...

That’s a good idea. In this case he got out while I was trying to fix his broken screen top (temporary grow-out enclosure, my house doesn’t get very dry). Since he isn’t very strong yet I left a...

Re: Baby carpet python escaped...

It does, doesn't it?

They didn't answer all of my questions... But it doesn't matter because I found him! :D

Unhappy Baby carpet python escaped...

The night before last, my baby jungle carpet python, Ron, got out of his enclosure! I’ve been searching through my room, but I can’t find him... I’m worried he’s left my bedroom as there was quite a...

Re: Help with my first DIY? (Aquarium/vivarium combo)

Thanks everyone! I thought about a paludarium but my snake poops in his water dish sometimes so I don’t know if it’s the best idea. I just moved him into a bigger enclosure so I’ll have to see if he...

Help with my first DIY? (Aquarium/vivarium combo)

Hello! I’m trying to plan an enclosure for when my baby jungle carpet python gets larger. I’d like to make it either 4 x 2 x 2 or 4 x 2 x 3 (depends on practicality). I’m also planning to build an...

Re: Does snake experience translate to lizards?

Yeah, I'm probably going to wind up breeding roaches. Anyway It's really too early for me to have my mind set on one lizard, and there's too many to choose from :)

It honestly depends on my...

Does snake experience translate to lizards?

I just got my second snake (a baby jungle carpet python...first was an adult Nelson's milk snake) and I'm thinking of getting a lizard within the next few years. I'm hoping someone can tell me...

Funniest snake?

What species or individual snake, in your opinion, is the funniest, whether due to looks or behavior?

To me it has to be Arabian sand boas. You can't not love that face.

Re: Baron's racer questions

I agree. Those snakes are beautiful!

It's looking like a carpet python is definitely the better fit for me. Unfortunately I don't have an afforable source of lizards so Asian vine snakes are out....

Re: Baron's racer questions

That's definitely worth thinking about. I like that they're hardy, arboreal and fairly tame (and green), but I was planning to free-handle and I didn't realize the venom was quite that bad. I have...

Question Baron's racer questions

I've had my milk snake for about a year now, and I'm trying to decide on my next (second) snake. I'm probably going to fall in love with even more species over the next month, but for now I think...

Re: Heating suggestions for cooler end?

Thanks everyone! I've lowered the temps to 72-75-ish (hotspot of 85 still) for now, so I'll see how he does with that. I have to say that as a side effect it's certainly more comfortable for yours...

Re: Heating suggestions for cooler end?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I have some better ideas of what to do now.

Also, basically what's going on here is that I normally keep him around 75-80 (he's a Nelson's) on the cool...

Heating suggestions for cooler end?

Heya. So I've been heating my milk snake's enclosure with a heat mat on the warm end, but for the cooler end I've just been heating up the entire room since it makes everything easier. However, I'm...

Re: Exo terra/boamaster for jungle carpet?

Space isn't a huge issue as long as I'm not going over 4 feet long cage-wise. I'll admit 3 feet might be more manageable an enclosure size, but it's really not a dealbreaker for me. Besides, I just...

Re: Exo terra/boamaster for jungle carpet?

True. I haven't actually decided on a species yet (just leaning heavily towards a carpet python), so the fact that I want to raise a neonate might mean it's better to just use a sterilite tub until I...

Re: Exo terra/boamaster for jungle carpet?

That is a beautiful snake!

marvelfreak, my only concern with the boamaster/AP is that they seem a little short for a snake that likes to climb (I can't afford the larger arboreal APs). Will this...

Re: Exo terra/boamaster for jungle carpet?

Thank you. I just looked at AP and it looks like right now it'll actually be cheaper to go with them since they're on sale. 195 plus 20 for strip lights for the same dimensions as the boamaster. (The...

Exo terra/boamaster for jungle carpet?

Just wondering if an Exo terra X-tall (36x18x36") would be good for an adult jungle carpet python. I'm also wondering about the taller boamaster cage (48x24x15"), since I haven't fully decided what...

Western vs madagascan hognose temperament?

While I probably won't be getting a hognose anytime soon due to my roommate's bee sting allergy, I think they're super cool snakes. Something I've been wondering for a while now is whether the...

Re: Best automatic humidifier?

That's a good point. I hadn't really thought about too much humidity... I live near the coast, and the least humid it gets is midsummer afternoons when it hasn't been raining. Those still average...

Best automatic humidifier?

I'm trying to figure out which snakes are feasible for me to keep. Every so often I need to leave my house for a few days, and it's part of why I chose my current snake-- he's a lower humidity...
