Python over 18 feet long caught in Everglades National Park - Orlando Sentinel

While we all know these guys don't belong in the Everglades, I must admit (since I have biked this path a few times on my visits to the in laws)' my first thought was, "man that wouldv'e been so cool to have found one like on a ride/hike". Of course it probably wasn't in plain sight. Last August I took a ride there and realized that the gators, turtles, snakes, and everything else were smarter than me as I was the only dope exerting himself in the hot daylight hours.

I saw another posting about the same snake on facebook, pic had a bunch of people holding the snake stretched straight out. Said that a necropsy showed that it was a female that hadn't bred this year, and the stomach was empty. Struck me a bit odd that they said the snake was captured, implying alive, when the snake in the pic was obviously dead from the way they were holding it.

Another report in the news today about a albino monacled cobra found in the living quarters of a apartment establishment. Channel 7 ABC news reporting this morning. Animal control was called in bc the residents couldn't contain the reptile. The animal was contained by animal control and taken back to a facility and euthanized. I didn't hear what state it occurred in but another step backwards for reptile keepers who are responsible. I guess one day we will have everyone be more responsible for their charges. How can you let a venomous reptile escape??????????????? OH, SORRY FOR SWITCHING GEARS HERE. DIDNT MEAN TO HIJACK THE THREAD AT ALL.

Some folks are just incredibly stupid, that's all. There was another story about some family that found a 10 or 12 foot Burm in their yard in Missouri. They said they couldn't get an animal control person out there for a couple of days. So, the father, upon seeing the size of the snake and being afraid to catch it himself, borrowed a shotgun and killed it. This was obviously a recently released or escaped pet. Just as in the FL story, I understand the that they don't belong there and the guy was fearful for his small child and his dog, but I would have totally tried to get that thing into a tub or a big sack or something. It clearly wasn't wild like the larger one in FL. Anyway, I just hope I've finally educated my in laws down there not to freak out every time they see a snake. I hope their next sighting comes when I'm visiting.

Someone told me the same story and said it was in NYC.
