Colubrid Hybrids

Mostly king, milk, and corns. Opinions? Difference in care? Any experience? Favorites? (I'm not looking to breed, just to keep. I know the bit about mudding blood lines etc I know that is a touchy issue but the blood line thing aside, your opinion and experience would be helpful. Also temperment?

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I think they can make some REALLY pretty colors and patterns. However, they can make some ugly ones too. I have nothing against mixing the blood lines so long as the breeders are truthful about it and keep it well documented.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I was just looking at some of them and they are so cool looking.

But I e found nothing that note size of possible size or noted size of known adult hybrids. I'm curious and want to know how big they typically get as well. I mean, the places that sell the that I've seen don't even mention that a particular snake could get however big as let's say a king but also could stay as small as a corn or milk.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

It's a risk you have to take with any hybrid really. Even in mammals, like all the poodle crosses, not all the puppies will be hypoallergenic, or have the poodle personality. They may not even get the poodle hair at all. So the best thing to do is to be willing to adapt as you go to the needs of the snake. Start with appropriate sized enclosure and be willing to upgrade to as large as you need to. Watch the health and habbits of the snake. It it spends all its time in the warm hide, probably means the ambient temps need to be bumped up. Apends all its time on the cool side, try lowering the ambiemt temps. Has a bad shed, bump up the humidity. So on and so on.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I've seen some beautiful colubrid hybrids. Some of the Imperial Pueblans and Jungle Corns are gorgeous. I agree with Mink as long as they're advertised as hybrids and well cared for I don't have an issue with them. I think the basic care requirements would be the same as other kings, milks, and corns. I've seen a few nice ones on ks.com and on the website linked below.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

Makes sense. If I did go hybrid (which is unlikely) I don't think I'd go with a cross with different needs.

I do want to hear from anyone with experience with any hybrid though. I also noticed that prices for the hybrids are only slightly more that regular prices unless really special crosses.

I was cruising some of fauna classifieds and I want to snag an albino cali kingv-v I must resist... I must...resist.....I must....."is this one still avaliable?" ... must... "yes" ... but... "sorry, plans have changed. I can't get him. Good luck" ............ *the dark side* "resistance is futile...." *me*"I know..."

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I was just cruising that second link before posting this lol. They have a lot to offer I think.
I'm liking those albino jungles.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I've met a king/corn hybrid who was a hoot--at the reptile show he kept leeeeaning off the branch he was on towards passerby. "Heeeeey. Over here. Heeeeeey!"

No idea what particular king or what corn morph was crossed, though.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I would love a snake like that lol. As I get used to handling my little Glitch, I'm looking more at kings as the next "handling speed" but a corn/king (which I've seen so far being called jungles) would be a good next step as well.

I hope to be visiting more expos and I hope to find more people around me that keeps snakes (or possibly breeds them) but it's hard to find breeders in the area that advertises.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I still highly suggest hoggies. ^_^

All of mine are the perfect amount of active, so far have been great eaters (even the sick rescues!), are out of their hides alot, and have neat patterns, colors, and personalities. Since you like yellow, you could look at at an albino. Mine has a gorgous lemony base with darjer yellow spots that are edged in pale orange or pink blushing depending on the light. =)

I normally hate anything with red eyes, but now I have 2 red eyed types. My albino and my extreme red.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

I own an Imperial Pueblan milk snake and from what I have read of cal kings and pueblan milk snakes, he is very much like his Pueblan relatives. For this particular hybrid I have read that they mostly follow this lineage in both size and temperament. This is likely due to the fact that they are 75% Pueblan and 25% king. He is a quite a stunning snake but also pretty secretive and flighty.

Re: Colubrid Hybrids

You have been steadily turning me to love hoggies Mink, though I don't really care for any other morphs than the albino (I've loved albino animals for as long as I can ember, I had an albino ferret as a kid) there is just something about a white animal with red eyes (or a black animal with blue eyes lol)

Why exactly do you not like hybrids? (Other than "mudding up bloodlines" stuff, which I already know about)
