Re: Heating Options?

It'll depend on the type of bulb you use. A 20 watt xenon bulb (like for under cabinet lighting) puts out as much heat as a 45 watt incandescent bulb. A 60 watt CHE will put out more heat than...

Re: Heating Options?

Ceramic heat emitters are more efficient at creating heat than a heat lamp. This is because the emitter is designed to just create heat while the light is only emitting heat as a by-product of...

Re: New Member from LV

Welcome to the forum. Things can be a little slow in here but someone should be around to answer any questions you may have.

Re: Odd Bent Scales

I would keep an eye on it and make sure that it doesn't show signs of irritation like pinkness or swelling. I imagine that as long as you keep humidity appropriately high during sheds then it should...

Re: Odd Bent Scales

How long has the scale been like that? I've had snakes with out-of-place scales for short periods of time but not usually for multiple sheds.

Re: My Amazon tree boa will not eat .....

My carpet pythons prefer branches that are at least as thick as they are for perching. Otherwise they'll just hang out on top of other objects like cork flats or the top edge of their water bowls.

Re: My Amazon tree boa will not eat .....

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Couple thoughts on your problem.

First, double check temperature and humidity. The snake might not have a hot enough basking spot, or the ambient is too hot...

Re: Feeding

I do put my mice directly in the water. It doesn't waterlog the mouse but it does reduce the scent. I then use tongs to dangle the mouse until the snake grabs it. And by dangle I mean anything...

Re: Feeding

Not sure how you thaw mice, but I thaw mine directly in warm water. I usually have to change the water multiple times throughout the thawing process. If you thaw in this manner then pour a little...

Re: Kingsnake Humidity Box

He'll come out all on his own, you don't need to worry about moving him.

Re: Corn snake morph identification

The snake could be a blood red but it is a little less red then you'd expect from one. It could also be diffused, there is a significant loss of pattern. And, of course, there are a lot of types of...

Re: Got my AP Cage!!!

I'd only worry about a night drop if your thermostat can do it automatically. Just give the snake a good hide on both sides and let it go where it wants to at night.

Re: Herpstat 2 and questions

It sounds like you have a good setup as is.

A CHE is a better heat source than a halogen/xenon/MVB because it doesn't waste any energy creating light and it can be used 24 hours a day without...

Re: 'Ello

Welcome.

I have a male Kunashir island rat snake. They're good looking snakes. He's a little flighty and doesn't like being handled. But he is fairly active at various points throughout the day...

Re: Co-habitating baby garters

Snakes cannot feel lonely. They lack the portion of the brain associated with thought processes like that. They can feel stress related to fight/flight, which can be triggered by being housed with...

Re: Sick burmese python?

It looks like you fed the snake two rabbits in one sitting. That could have been an appropriate amount of food given the weight of the snake compared to the weight of the rabbits, but it could be...

Re: Best heat bulb for ATB

I believe you're keeping the snake in an exoterra with a screen top? And controlling the temperature with a dimmer? You can probably use just about any incandescent flood bulb around 40 watts or...

Re: New sand boa temp questions

I'm going to summarize your setup from your description, please correct any mistakes I make.

You have a thermostat controlling room temperature that is apparently set to 70F.

You are relying on...

Re: ball python help please

Your snake isn't angry, and probably isn't hungry, though it will likely eat.

Adult ball pythons generally only need to eat one appropriately sized prey item every two weeks. Some snakes still...

Re: I have a new Amazon Tree Boa

I do not have an ATB but I do have carpet pythons. They prefer to perch on rather substantial branches, so your ATB might be staying on the ground because it doesn't have a thick enough branch to...

Re: diy rocks for retic enclosure help

I use natural rocks as well.

Most natural rocks will weigh in excess of 200 pounds per cubic foot. Some enclosures are designed to carry that weight and some are not. For enclosures that cannot...

Re: AFP Enclosure

Many European countries have laws governing minimum tank sizes for reptiles. The tank sizes are usually much larger than snake owners in the USA use. I would check Germany's laws for clarification....

Re: Pet Store Branches

If you have a herbicide and pesticide free area to harvest branches from then you should be fine to use them. I prefer to use grape vine, fruit woods (pear, cherry, apple, etc), and hardwoods. I...

Re: What kind of snake is this? Attached

That was a harmless cornsnake.

The head shape, body shape, colors, and pattern don't resemble a copperhead at all.
