Re: Heating

Something may have been wrong with your CHE. I can heat my well-house with one. I had a very similar sized/constructed cage with my bearded dragon and heated it with a CHE just fine. Especially since...

Re: Last pet snake ever!

Carpets all the way. Great snakes with a lot of diversity to chose from. I never experienced the "nippy" bit you hear about. Mine was perfect from day 1.

Re: Heating

Probably could be done, but...I'd stay away from any product not designed to handle getting wet in case your snake dumps his bowl. Also, putting it under the substrate is risky in my opinion since...

Re: Public perception of snake?

All of my arrivals have only been labeled "live animals" and nothing more specific. You should report their behavior to someone higher up. It's simply unprofessional.

Re: Bredli carpet thread

Just visited the California Academy of Sciences last week. They've got a cage about 6' in diameter and 3' tall housing two adult bredlis, a woma and a blackhead. I'm not recommending it, but it was...

Re: Nut blend bedding

I used this with my bearded dragon for a few months. He definitely ingested bits of it when he ate or tested things with his tongue, but I can't say he suffered any more from it than he might have...

Re: Refusal

That's about right. It may take a few weeks before they are settled in enough to eat. Making sure there are plenty of hiding places can help, as does covering the cage with a towel, but mostly just...

Re: Bredli carpet thread

Thanks. I've always wished he had more red to him. He's a very sepia shade of brown, but he does have nice blacks to contrast with the light areas.

Re: Stunted Growth

I think feeding and temps may play a role in this as they both are involved in metabolism. I agree with Kuamata that overfeeding is just as potentially dangerous as underfeeding. I'd rather see a...

Re: Bredli carpet thread

Ridley the Bredli is just over two years old now and finally getting close to 6 ft. He's never struck at me though there have been times when he's hungry that I could tell he was thinking about it....

Re: Are these Root Gnats?

You're probably getting these from overwatering or having poor drainage.

Re: Owner awareness?

But to weigh in with my honest opinion, I think it's a mistake to attribute higher emotions (like, love, trust) to snakes, and better to look at it biologically. They may recognize an object by sight...

Re: Owner awareness?

I was thinking the same thing...and then my snake shot rainbows out of its butt and smiled and purred when I walked in the room.

This whole thread is totally foreign to me, but this post cracked me up; not the customer, but that fact that you're on a snake blog posting about this while dealing with the person. I will...

Re: Snake leashes?

If you want something to take for walkies, get a dog. Snakes should be kept in a controlled environment to prevent them from getting hurt, escaping, or harming someone.

Re: How often?

It totally depends on how much you're feeding and living conditions. 3 weeks is an awfully short span, but it's possible.

Re: National Geographic Reptile Sanctuary

I like how it's elevated so it would be easy to get a UTH under it. With the screen lid I would avoid a heat lamp or CHE. I think you've got a good plan with your choice of species. Most N. American...

Re: new to snakes - green colored snakes?

Could always try a rubber boa if you're into a more snot color green.
