Re: I finally caved!

I bred Hogs for a few years, awesome little snakes, some of mine never got rid of their defense mechanisms...although for me in captivity...it did not happen often, the snakes always came out of the...

Re: Temp guns and readings.

Typical body temp is 98.6...If you can tell 2.6 degrees by touch...you are my hero.

Reality is you have to trust your equipment. I have a couple temp guns and they vary less than 1/2 a degree. ...

Re: Do snakes hiss at one another?

Exactly...Kinda where I was going with that. It would be any interesting project if someone had the right sound equipment.

Hissing is probably the most popular sound associated with snakes, but...

Re: Do snakes hiss at one another?

I read a research paper a few years back on the topic of snakes hearing any airborne sounds. The results of the study with the test animals was they actually can not "hear" airborne sounds at all....

Re: Trouble with a very brazen snake.

I don't think I am...by your own admission. I am not trying to berate you. Your issue is confidence with a snake that acts differently than the others in your collection. Snakes are not very...

Re: Feeding a sunbeam snake!!

I worked with 7 Sunbeams while I was doing my venomous training. I had no problem with them feeding on rodents. I really think getting them set up properly is the key. Substrate should be 6+ inches...

Re: Trouble with a very brazen snake.

Cosmic Owl,
Forget the food...It's not the issue here. Please don't take this the wrong way, but truthfully the problem is you. I bred corn snakes for 7 years. I have dealt with every size and...

Re: What is this snake?!

Very cool lizard. I see these all the time. Look closely you can see the ear openings and eyelids that snakes lack.

Re: 1st eggs of the season!

I think its a good decision, you will not have any problems at 82-83. I was always afraid to go up higher, but I have know others to incubate them at 85. The higher temperatures can result in animals...

Re: 1st eggs of the season!

Congrats on the Hondo eggs! I always enjoyed working with them. The hatchlings are some of prettiest of all. I am curious to know what temp are you incubating at? At 73-80 days you have to be down...

Re: Trouble with a very brazen snake.

Jim pretty much hit the nail on the head. What you expect the snake to act like really doesn't matter. It's not up to you. it's just the snakes temperament. I also doubt it's food related. A larger...

Re: Need Assistance: Is this a gopher snake or a rattlesnake?

Great thread..lots of great information.

FYI

Rattlesnakes are born with a "button" each time they shed they gain another segment. They will however still shake the button, even though it...

Re: Microchipping?

[QUOTE=Karighan;917951]Actually, it depends on his county and city; every city/county in FL has different regulations and you need to double-check them.

As an example-- one city in my county...

Re: Microchipping?

Starbuck - You are fine. No boas are required to be chipped. This is all policed by the state (Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission) and not counties. That doesn't mean local ordnances are...

The Monocle Cobras are hatching (Naja kouthia). This clutch was Albino to het. I was lucky to only get 4 hets out of 14 eggs.

Re: False Water Cobra constricting?

I worked with FWC's for about 6 years. They would "pin" prey in corners or the floor, but I don't ever remember seeing them constrict. They were probably one of the most food aggressive species I...

Re: Best way to go about being bit?

MDT covered it great, but I wanted to add a few suggestions. Know what venomous snakes are native to the area you are hiking in. Being able to identify what bit you will save a lot of grief with the...

Re: Making a build and need Spacing and Flexwatt helps

Re: Making a build and need Spacing and Flexwatt helps

The flexwatt should have at least 1/8 gap below or above. With wood you will have the best results buy building a false back with some small vents to allow the heat to enter the cage. It really is a...
