Re: Quail or Bird Diet?

Should you decide to add chicks to your snake's diet, Big Cheese Rodent Factory sells day-old chicks in addition to mice and rats. I have always been impressed by the quality of their feeders.

Re: Herp help!

That's part of it (those feet are much more suited to swimming than walking on land) but mainly it's the shape of the head and placement of the nostrils. That's a turtle that's built to lurk...

Re: Snake Identification?

At least you made an effort.

All too often people kill first and then ask later.

There was one sadist who burnt a tiny blind snake to death with a cigarette lighter, then asked if it was a...

Re: Herp help!

I am only familiar with tortoises and turtles that are commonly kept as pets in the US, so the only help I can offer is that this is an aquatic turtle, not a land tortoise.

Unfortunately I don't...

Re: whites tree frog won't eat!!!

I suspect your frog isn't eating for a few reasons.

Worms don't really move around very much and White's tree frogs have to see their prey moving around to be able to see and track it. Mine don't...

Unhappy Been Gone for a While

Haven't been on since early February but figured I should check in once in a while when I can.

Felt absolutely terrible such that I couldn't move, joints were swollen and achy, swollen lymph...

Re: House Snake On the Lam

Yeah, I've looked at the threads and have tried all of the tricks I can muster but thought I'd cast my net out anyway in case someone had anything else up their sleeve.

I'm really hoping she will...

House Snake On the Lam

So... one of my pair of hobby olive house snakes got out of her cage and is on the run. She's gravid. She's loose in the basement and has been for a few days now. She's not exactly easy to replace...

Re: What Animal Would Like This Enclosure?

House, garter or rough green snakes come to mind (especially males of the first 2, which stay smaller than females). Anything little that likes to climb would appreciate a 20 gal high.

Anoles...

Re: Finding a Russian Rat Snake! Please help

Glad you found one. I did it the hard way... by relentlessly stalking FaunaClassifieds and Kingsnake.com for about 2 years because the only reliable sources I knew of were always sold out.

Re: State Laws

None in South Dakota unless you want to collect local (non-endangered) specimens. Then you need a fishing license, of all things.

Notable exception: The city of Sioux Falls prohibits...

Adonis for a male
Aphrodite (or Venus) for a female

Re: Recommendations on dedicated reptile room setup?

I have noticed the same. AP cages are great and their racks are fine for larger hatchlings... but the gap at the top has proven sufficient for some of my tinier hatchlings to wriggle out of their...

Re: Types of Green Snakes?

What is your level of experience?

A lot of the snakes mentioned here are for advanced / expert keepers. Both green tree pythons and emerald tree boas not only have generally bad tempers but have...

Re: Hog Island Boa won’t eat?

Unless he's losing weight, no. Don't be too concerned.

But do keep checking his temps and humidity to be sure they are staying where they need to be and make sure he has plenty of hiding places...

Re: Recommendations on dedicated reptile room setup?

The rollers for the bottom cage are a bit expensive but worth it. I like that they have a bunch of add-on options for you to choose from too. :)

Re: Recommendations on dedicated reptile room setup?

We tried to go the shelving route and nothing we looked at worked.

Thus we use modular stacking cages. Check out apcages.com to see what theirs are like. They are fairly reasonable pricewise and...

Re: Anyone keep black milk snakes?

Bandit, I'm not sure how economical it is to ship from Canada to the US, though I know shipping the *other* way is involved and expensive. Might be something you want to investigate first before you...
