Is this a Garter Snake?

Hello, I recently moved to a new house on a lake. I sat my Tractor tire firepit ontop of an old tree stump that had been used for a fire pit at one time. Later this evening I found this little guy in the ground near the pit. I figured it had warmed up the ground enough for him to come out. Was wondering what type he was, I thought maybe a garter or king snake, but not for certain. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Also, I live in Central Louisiana.

Yep. Either that or a speckled king.

Welcome neighbor! I’m in Louisiana as well. It’s a Speckled King Snake. Excellent to have around and I’m sure you’ll be seeing your fair share of them over time.
