Re: Been a way for a while, have a concern

That's a breeder website - why would I have any interest in what someone who is making money through unethical breeding has to say? I'm asking for peer reviewed papers.

Re: Been a way for a while, have a concern

@Aaron - 'Their job is to eat, poop, grow, stay alive and proliferate the species.'

I'm surprised you could have such a low basis for what constitutes a quality life and the criteria differ...

Re: Been a way for a while, have a concern

The origins of the gene are somewhat irrelevant as I feel the same way about the jaguar carpet morph, scales snakes, silk back dragons, eyeless snakes and any other animal (and I include things like...

Re: Considering a CA King

UV won't penetrate glass so the snake would not be getting any at all through a window then the viv glass.

I'd certainly echo what Albert says that heating and thermostat are critical so if that's...

Re: Regurgitation

Yeah I'd certainly be carrying out maintenance etc on an entirely separate day to feeding also (and to be honest unless I was concerned about health in general I'd skip the weighing bit altogether -...

Re: Been a way for a while, have a concern

Go on then. Give me one benefit to the hobby from breeding snakes with a guaranteed disability. What do we gain, how is the hobby advanced by this practice?

I can think of precisely one -...

Re: Been a way for a while, have a concern

So what does the hobby gain by breeding defective morphs? What benefit is there to doing so?

The option is there to not breed them (intentionally that is) so why bother?

Re: Been a way for a while, have a concern

The UK is slowly getting round to stopping the sale of the spider morph and any other morph that carries the gene.

Similarly the jaguar carpets are slowly being seen as the unacceptable face of...

Re: Relocation....

Stress shouldn't be too much of an issue, more so for the M viridis but the P regius should be fine. Just give them plenty of time to recover at the other end before trying to handle them or feed...

Re: Texas Rat Snake handling

Imo tap training is a little different to handling. Tap training is a conditioning method to get the snake to associate the tap of a hook to no food being offered. Note however I have stopped to...

Re: New to snakes

Standards are the best looking anyway - congratulations on snake ownership. Be warned - I bought my first snake almost exactly 2 years ago. My signature details my collection now :)

Re: Texas Rat Snake handling

My little boy's P obsoletus has real attitude and is really quite difficult to get out of the viv.

Once out he is usually pretty fast moving and skittish and he is already in a defensive posture....

Re: I'm looking for a snake with these characteristics.

House snakes aren't rear fanged to my knowledge. Great creatures though - feeding response like a mini retic :)

Re: King Snake got out...

I've had a few escapes and they've always turned up eventually. Check *everywhere* - two off mine turned up in drawers that were closed so how they got in I don't know.

Another turned up when I...

Re: Strange behavior

I was just about to say the same! Learn to work with the snake, not against it. No species will remember and learn from stunts like that quicker than a scrub.

Calm slow deliberate movements - gain...

Re: Enclosure recommendation

Weight for one. Oak is incredibly heavy. Ease of working with for another. Pine is much easier to cut, shape and join.

I don't know any viv maker in the UK who would build out of Oak over pine if...

Re: New to Boas: Interested in genetics and morphs

This absolutely is not how the spider morph came about.

The spider morph is a result of many cross/in breedings and pricing out various combinations. The sheer amount of messing around with the...

Re: Boa Constrictor Sabogae - advice needed

Try and get in touch with Ian Kerr. Possibly the best breeder of B constrictor sp. in the UK and will undoubtedly have some knowledge iro of working with these.

Agree with Richard - they're lovely...

Re: Enclosure recommendation

I have started moving all my animals over to a viv made from a lightweight pvc that is about 10mm thick. Really nice vivs - very strong but much lighter than anything made of wood or glass.

They...

Re: New Echo pics. Trans Pecos Ratsnake.

Beautiful animal. There's a blonde phase going at my favourite store but I must resist. Know a couple of other people with them who rate them very highly as a snake to keep.
