Re: Storeria dekayi/Dekay's Brown Snake Availability

Old thread but... I'm still on the lookout, can anyone source a Dekayi?

Re: upgraded my dekayi

Don't use the red wrigglers. From what I hear they secrete some sort of... well something that isn't totally healthy. Research it a bit, I'm sure it'll come up.

Re: Dealing with small black flies

Then trust me, if you have a heat humidifier, they'll be gone in about 2 weeks.:D Just set the humidifier in the same room, near the affected enclosures.

Re: Dealing with small black flies

Are you talking fungus gnats? A heat humidifier works best, they fly into it and die because they love heat and humidity. I can stand by this method and say that I had an infestation, and 90% were...

Re: How many animals are you housing?

I only have invertebrates. I only counted predatory invertebrates of which I have 22 (will be receiving 4 H. petersii scorplings very soon). I also have a couple colonies of different inverts,...

Re: My Dekayi

Awesome! I've been looking for one of these, but they aren't native where I live and no one seems to sell them. :( Cool specimen!

Re: My eight legged friends, update topic.

That's why I never do breeding loans. I always trade off my mature males for other species. Sucks to hear that man.

Re: Got in one of "those" packages yesterday!

Lots of species (Mantis religiosa, Tenodera sinensis, etc.) are in the US but aren't native here. The one pictured above looks like a Mantis religiosa so not really native to the US lol. They've...

Re: Shedding Question

Dude you gave everyone 2 hours... This is a forum you know. There are people that viewed the thread but have no idea how to help, like me. No idea about your snake problem, I hope you can sort it...

Re: Herping in your own backyard?!

Love the patterning! Sucks that the species isn't readily available in the hobby. Seems like the perfect snake for invert hobbyists like me who don't want to deal with mice.:D

Re: New jumping spider (Hyllus diardii) :)

Not this species, this species gets huge. I see lots of Phidippius sp. around though, and they are nice.

Re: Wild Scaleless

Well, just wanna throw in my opinion here, a quick Google search reveals that snakes have been around 90-100 million years (may not be accurate, but I'd bet it's somewhere around that timeframe). If...

Re: He, is a She! Asian Forest Scorpion

Totally understand... the spider stories (I'm a spider guy for the most part) people tell are crazy and sometimes make me visibly cringe.

Re: He, is a She! Asian Forest Scorpion

Agreed, Heterometrus sp. just don't have the venom to do something like that. I would not hold her. Inverts are very unlike snakes and other reptiles in that, they can't be "tamed down". They will...

Re: Storeria dekayi/Dekay's Brown Snake Availability

Ok so in summary, if I can't get a S. dekayi, then I should go with a lizard right. Sound right?

Re: He, is a She! Asian Forest Scorpion

Keep them at the same temps and things as the female is at, but a bit moister. I would separate them, but it's not necessary. Looking at the pic, looks like she may still have some more to go. ...
