Re: Which Do You Prefer - Handling or Display?

I think it depends on the temperament of the snake. My oldest snake is also my best behaved. He is the "golden retriever " snake that people always talk about. So hes fun to handle. My gray rat isn't...

Re: How often should a one year old 4 foot long retic eat

Exactly. The body gets thinner, then thicker near the base of the tail and the abruptly becomes much thinner. There is nothing wrong with a snake having some extra body fat, but when a snake with a...

Re: How often should a one year old 4 foot long retic eat

Both snakes look obese. You can see the fat deposits building up near the retics tail.

Re: How often should a one year old 4 foot long retic eat

In another thread said that they used to feed live and had a tazer on hand to stun rats if they started biting their snake.

Re: How often should a one year old 4 foot long retic eat

You're putting your obsession ahead of your snakes well being.

Re: How often should a one year old 4 foot long retic eat

It's not too big in the sense that it would outright kill the snake but it's not healthy to stress a snake by feeding prey items that push the limits of what it can handle. Just because a snake can...

Re: How often should a one year old 4 foot long retic eat

In another thread, you said that you fed a ball python a jumbo rat which it hadn't digested in a week. Now you ask if a jumbo rat is too big for your retic, and then ignore the advice of a poster and...

Do snakes get cut while swallowing sharp objects?

This is a subject I don't think I've ever seen a proper answer to. Snakes eat all kinds of gnarly things, like beaks, claws horns and hooves, yet they rarely seem to suffer any consequences. In most...

Re: Are snakes ever really pets?

Are animals at the zoo the pets of the people who curate them? I guess that is the way I feel about my snakes. I get a lot of joy from them and I'm very attached to them, but I don't think I consider...

Re: Fat corn snake?

He looks good. Snakes can have different body types. My adult male is 820 grams and almost as thick as my wrist. He's a short and stocky corn.

Re: First time snake owner

My advice would have been to wait and do all of your research before buying anything. But since that is probably out of the question, I would do your research now. I'm not a ball python expert, but...

Re: Is this man being responsible with these hot snakes?

"Responsible" is a really subjective term. One could say that it's not responsible to even keep venomous snakes at all. You can never eliminate the possibility of getting bitten or one of your snakes...

Re: Do you think he's fasting?

I thought I would give you guys an update on the situation. I've been busy lately, so unfortunately, I haven't posted much. Anyway, after I fed him back in march, he went off food again. He stopped...

Re: Do you think he's fasting?

Good news, he ate again. It took him a while, but I think it may have been of matter of him not having eaten a rat in months, and forgetting the smell.

Re: Perfect Prey Feeders

I just ordered from them recently and I can confirm that the rats seem pretty high quality. They're plump and well fed looking and their coats were nice. They did have a bit of a pee smell, but I...

Re: My new corn snake, Aztec

To increase humidity, you can cover the top of the cage with aluminum foil. Then mist slightly with a spray bottle.

Re: Do you think he's fasting?

Yeah, I hope so. Aside from his little break, he's been an eating machine. I bought some small rats recently, so I offer him one of those next week.

Re: Do you think he's fasting?

I thought I would let you all know that he eat tonight. I guess a week of temps in the 80s kicked his hunger into gear. He made short work of a mouse and a chick. Hopefully he eats again next week.

Re: Do you think he's fasting?

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure he's okay, but it's just a little frustrating. I haven't been wasting food with though. What he turns down I feed to my male corn snake, who isn't off food.

Re: Do you think he's fasting?

I haven't been around lately, but I thought I would update you guys. He's only eaten one mouse since I made this post. However, I've been watching his weight and he hasn't lost a gram. He's still...

Re: Do you think he's fasting?

I would agree, but this isn't normal behavior. He never refuses to eat unless he's going to shed. I'm worried about it, but it does seem strange to me.

Do you think he's fasting?

It's been two weeks since my grey rat snake last ate, which is unusual for him. When he didn't eat last week, I assumed he must be getting ready to shed, because that is essentially the only time he...
