A fitting article for recent forum turmoil

Here's a link to a lovely article outlining the dangers of some "behaviour" that has caused quite the stir on the forum as of late.

WARNING: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC PICTURES IN THE LINK!!!!!

Yeah. I read there's a good chance she's going to die anyway. So sad.

Good grief....that poor girl. People underestimate how quickly a bite can happen. I hope that she will survive.

Horrific. Some venomous keepers take for granted how modern medicine can mitigate the damage of a bite. I'd never wnt to get bitten out in the wilderness.

Re: A fitting article for recent forum turmoil

Oh look its lunch time.

Thanks OP!

Joking aside, thats a horrific bite. Every time I've seen pics or video of snake bites and what these people end up having to go through just to survive (poor girl in article still may not make it. very sad) it just makes me wonder what the attraction is to holding venomous snakes with bare hands (or at arms length for that matter).

I'm a very inexperienced keeper and never have had experience with any hots and while they intrigue me greatly, the thought of getting bit and having to endure something like this is absolutely enough make me certain that picking them up even once is not worth the risk.

Its one thing to think "oh this snake might kill me, ok i accept that risk." but its another when it happens and you have to begin experiencing the pain as each hour goes by and hours turn into days and weeks while you're forced to watch your leg turn black and wither away. No thanks. That said , I love watching hot keepers work with their snakes (responsibly anyways)

Re: A fitting article for recent forum turmoil

What a sad story. I can't imagine the pain and suffering that poor girl went through. From reading the rest of the story, it looks like the venom very probably damaged other parts of her body including internal organs so she will quite possibly die even if the leg is amputated. That photo is what I think of when I see people free handle venomous snakes as if it makes them look brave. Thanks for sharing this story.
