Re: Baby Hondo enclosure ??

You could put it in the 20 if it has enough hides. Give it a few inches of substrate because it may feel more comfortable burrowing at first. Hondurans, like most milk snakes, are excellent escape...

Re: Can my Florida Green Snake Live in the Same Tank As My Garter.

I wouldn't. While their care requirements are very similar, I'd be concerned that the Garter may attempt to eat the other snake. While garters aren't big snake eaters, they're very opportunistic and...

Re: Is this a Garter Snake?

Welcome neighbor! I’m in Louisiana as well. It’s a Speckled King Snake. Excellent to have around and I’m sure you’ll be seeing your fair share of them over time.

Re: wild chameleons in south florida

Don't know any spots, but good luck. Seems like plenty of folks down there are finding them pretty easily. I've heard a lot of the spots are on private property, so be aware of that.

Re: Snakes of Texas Help

I've only herped in Texas in the Spring and Fall, and that was in East Texas. I'd imagine during the summer that it's hard to flip or hike much during the day since it'll be so hot, but it's worth a...

Re: Snake has not fully shed in 6 months - Help!

This sounds like a similar case of what my milk snake had prior to dying. For him, he basically looked as if he had to shed but couldn't, and it got to the point where he looked dry and...

Re: How would you describe the smell of snake musk?

I almost brought up Ringnecks, because they have an incredibly strong musk for something that size. Strangely enough, I don't find it nearly as disgusting as some others, despite it being so potent.

Re: How would you describe the smell of snake musk?

Musk can be pretty bad depending on the species. It's very pungent, and I find it hard to describe. It smells noticeably worse than feces, in my opinion. Thamnophis and Nerodia musk is terrible, and...

Re: Green Bush Rat vs Rough Green snake?

Can’t speak on bush rats here, but I can tell you a bit about my experience with Rough Greens (which seems to fit in with other people’s experiences). The short answer is no - they don’t like to to...

Re: can garter snakes be fed live fish?

You can feed live fish. However, there are more pitfalls than benefits (parasites, diseases, etc). More importantly though, you'd be much better off feeding it rodents. Wouldn't hurt to supplement...

Re: Looking to become 1st time snake owner

This sums it up to a tee. I had success by never handling except for during cleanings. The larger enclosure the better, and make sure there are tons of plants (I used fake). Obviously, they like...

Re: Can a green snake & garter stay in same tank?

Could they? Sure. My primary concern would be that as the garter gets bigger, it may be more inclined to eat the green snake. Garters aren't big snake eaters, but I definitely wouldn't put it past a...

Does he have things to rub up against to help remove the shed?

Next time when you see him getting ready to shed, either soak him in lukewarm water or spray him with a mister. No need to stress out...

I haven't read the article, nor have I ever been in or herped in New York. However, I know that Copperheads are found slightly north of that area. Really not that much of a stretch for one to get...

Yep! I've heard that it happens pretty often with them, but I've only witnessed it once. It broke a decent chunk off when I first grabbed it, and then let a second significant piece break off as I...

Re: Please identify this snake for me

Veronica is correct...it's a legless lizard (a.k.a. glass lizard). Not sure of the exact species as it would depend on your location.

I see them every now and then. They're extremely quick and...
