Re: Swift eye scabbed

The eye is a very complex organ. It is a very sensitive part of any organism's body but it also has it's own built in barriers against vectors of disease, but once those barriers become compromised,...

Re: Snake shedding after hatching/birth

You'll find most species will shed 7-15 days after hatching and there are too many to list as well as too many variances involved to accurately do so. There are only a few species that will hatch...

Re: Why is there no Coral snake antivenom

You honestly kind of answered your question before you asked it in the first statement of your original post. In regards to the rest of your post, I wonder if there is a scientific, medical, or...

Re: Baby boa hasnt eaten!!!

With boas, as they grow their feeding response intensifies. It's not entirely uncommon to have to start them on live prey and after a few meals they switch over pretty readily. Glad to hear that...

Re: Snake shedding after hatching/birth

Some species shed almost immediately after they hatch, for others it takes up to two weeks. Since your question lacks specificity, that is the best answer that you'll get.

Re: Wild-caught vs. Captive-bred

Figured i'd play a bit of devil's advocate today. Nothing is meant by my post other than to stimulate this conversation from a different perspective. :)

I would propose that your statements bring...

Re: My snake thinks my finger is food.

Garter snakes have been bred in captivity for a few decades now, and just like with other species, one reason we breed in captivity is to reduce populations being taken from the wild. Sounds like...

Re: My snake thinks my finger is food.

I see. Perhaps try using longer tweezers to reduce the association, as well as interacting more with it so that it doesn't expect food when your hand approaches.

Feeding tanks do nothing to stop...

Re: My snake thinks my finger is food.

There is no such thing as domestication when it comes to snakes. Even captive bred animals aren't truly domesticated. Absolutely zero need to take something from the wild that is commonly bred in...

Re: Adult corn snake suddenly very hyper

No, they do not form bonds. It's a shame that they were housed together to begin with, and also that you never found out what caused the death of your other snake because if it was caused by disease,...

Re: Is my snake overweight?

Yes. It will take more than skipping a feeding together that ball python to an appropriate weight. What's your current feeding regimen and how big/old is the snake?

Re: Black stripe in a mouth

Please don't flush with chlorhexidine as it can damage mucous membranes and may cause more issues in this instance. I'd do nothing without consulting a licensed veterinarian. That line in the mouth...

Re: Reptile Basics "Customer Service"

That's like saying someone purchased a used car privately and the dealership refused to deal with them because it wasn't bought direct. Not only is it unethical, but it would ruin any chances of a...

Re: how long to leave lights on

Without looking at the papers, it makes me wonder- although there is measurable difference in the level of D3 present between UVB being offered and not being offered, and if the snakes still survive...

Re: What snake between these two do you guys recommend?

Many baby snakes die in the wild for one reason or another...it's why so many are produced in a single litter. This would include predation in open spaces, which they have evolved to avoid. We could...

Re: how long to leave lights on

This is absolutely incorrect. The majority of species kept commonly in the pet trade do not, but it does benefit them if it can be offered.
