Re: Thoughts and opinions / experience?

From what little I have read on them, it seems many of the wild caught ones do not make it long term in captivity. So while you would initially save money with them, once you add in the vet fees...

Re: Breeding Red Eye Crocodile Skinks

Just have to keep feeding them and give them time. Get a fecal exam done. Keep them as healthy as possible and they will generally breed in captivity.

Re: Question about RUBs

If you're using a good quality tstat and make sure the probe is not knocked loose, you should be totally fine. There are probably hundreds of thousands of bins running this way all around the world.

Re: Plastic Tubs

They were probably stacked during storage so they never fully off gassed before you got them. Shouldn't take long, I usually set my racks up about a week a head of time and I've never noticed any...

Re: eBay UTH?

I have no reptilebasics.com will assemble heat tape with a cord for you. It is less expensive than buying a UTH at a store and works just as well. For tstats, I would definitely not go cheap. It's...

Re: I need enclosure help!!!!!

How cold are we talking? If it's in the low 70s with the uth for a hot spot, should be fine. Otherwise you might be better off buying a slightly older animal that's already big enough to go into an...

Re: In which country can you own a venomous snake without any certificate?

I have no idea, in the United States some states you are not supposed to have them in some states, a lot of states you need a permit, in some you don't need anything to have them. Individual...

Re: Russian Rat Snake Help

I have some Russian and one Korean ratsnake. They do very well in the 70s with a small basking area of heat tape in case they decide they want to be warmer, even that I only have set on the low 80s....

Re: Need help!! Is reptilebasics safe?

I've been using the Reptile basics RHPs for years without issue. I think either brand will do just fine, so take a look at your options.

Re: Working on a website - looking for input

I would definitely include your herping stories in the blog. Anything interesting about where and how you have found certain animals and such would be good. Also a good way to get interest is to...

Re: Looking for info on Eastern Work Snakes!

I think Herpin Man is right on the $. They should have access to drier and moister areas and cover to hide on in both places. I imagine 80F at the surface on the warm side is plenty, these snakes...

Re: Help me find a suitable snake species please

Don't get a snake you don't really want for a learning experience. It's not best for you or the animal. You'll just end up with an animal that you never really wanted in the first place and the odds...

Re: I am trying to learn how to care for a scarlet king snake

It would have been better to capture a rodent eating species. I don't know much about native US snakes, but I believe this species may need to be started on lizards. You can catch or buy small skinks...

Re: DIY Wooden Enclosure Rainbow Boa

I think you'll be way happier just buying a decent sized plastic enclosure, but if you really want to build with wood, yes you can use plywood you'll just have to protect it against moisture. The one...

Re: DIY enclosure ventilation

I would add some additional ventilation even if it's just some 1/8" holes along the top sides or a couple of 3" round vents could work. I would skip the CHE and use RHP would probably provide more...

Re: Viper Boa Sex Identification

I'm sure there must be an exotics shop or breeders somewhere near you that can help. It's helpful to have 2 people anyway especially when you're not sure what you're doing.

Re: A/C is Out and Indoor Temps are Rising...

Some species are more heat sensitive than others. If you keep highly sensitive species, probably worth getting a generator. I know there are natural gas ones that auto kick on.

I don't like the non-digital timers even though they are cheap. I have found a lot of them don't seem to actually "tick" properly and the time gets off over time or they end up giving me other...
