Re: He's here!!!

For me, it really depends on how long the food has been thawed. I rarely leave food in their tubs for longer than an hour. If mine won't take their food within that time frame, it's of my opinion...

Re: He's here!!!

Many snakes will not eat while in the shedding process. If his eyes are looking a bit blue, then he's more than likely going through shed. With him being in new surroundings, combined with shedding,...

Re: He's here!!!

^^^^ What Terranaut said. I rarely see any of my animals drink at all, with the exception of my burms. Anytime I give those girls fresh water and let them see it, they'll usually drink, but that's...

Re: Checklist for First Timer

Feeding: some people will say wait about a week before offering food so they have a chance to acclimate to their new surroundings. Some people will feed a day or so after they acquire a new animal. I...

Re: A safety reminder going into spring time

I didn't realize OK participated in those, although I've heard a few people talk about it....I just brushed it off as non reptile people talking about something they knew nothing about.

Do you...

Re: Doing it wrong-Feeding my Jag

I was once told that eating their food butt first was a sign it wasn't large enough, but I don't put much into that. Every once in a while mine get in a hurry to eat and eat butt first, no matter the...

Re: Chrome Head Black Bloods.

Wow! What a helluva deal on the enclosure!

I wasn't aware that bloods heads will sometimes change color with moods. That's freaking sweet!

Re: Checklist for First Timer

I wouldn't worry about providing the animal the ability to burrow as soon as you get it. IMO, it's more important for you to do what's in the best interest of making sure the animal is healthy and...

Re: Checklist for First Timer

I think you have done most excellent so far. :D And you have more stuff on the way.

Have you decided what substrate you're going to use? I suggest using paper at first. Even good breeders have...

Re: Carpet it is. Breeder list?

With a carpet, I don't think it would really matter much when it comes to size. With them being a leaner animal you should be able to handle a female on your own with good handling techniques. So...

Re: Checklist for First Timer

Herpstat is a Spyder product, right? Exactly which model do you use/prefer?

These are the ones I'm thinking of converting my stats over to eventually but keeping the VEs as backups.

Re: Checklist for First Timer

See...I never knew exactly what people were using in regards to a stat. I've heard of people using the one I use and the more expensive ones, and a couple of others, but this is the first time I...

Re: Prospective Snake Owner Questions!

Did you check out the dumerils boas? They may not be an outstanding looking animal, but their disposition and easy care and husbandry makes them a joy to keep.

Re: April the G. Rosea (pic heavy)

I had to google the indian violet...such a beautiful creature! They're also web spinners which would make for a really unique display animal. Now I want one! But they're so aggressive!

How do you...

Re: April the G. Rosea (pic heavy)

I'm not entirely sure. I've read so many different stories on those that are supposed to be good beginner T's, I get confused lol. I do know that the rose hairs are the most docile. I know to stay...

Re: Animal / Human descrimination by snakes ...

My cat is not allowed anywhere near my snakes just because my big burm girl hates him. She has since she first sighted him as a kitten and struck out at him while in her tub. He even goes outside...

Re: Checklist for First Timer

Feeding them in a separate bin for...blah..blah..blah...is pretty much a myth.

In the past I have fed in a feeding bin. The last few years I feed inside their enclosures. I get a better feeding...

Re: April the G. Rosea (pic heavy)

Tarantulas are pretty easy to keep. Mine is kept at room temp, but my room temp never gets below 75. I'm not sure how docile the choco white knees are, but I recommend researching the different ones...
