Pied is recessive in every species so far.

I have one of those...I need to get a better picture of the underside, but you can see the white flecks (left side of the snake, starting from the head on down in the pic) on some of the scales in this picture...

Re: Pied sided corn snake genetic question

Pied is both recessive in corns and linked to the Diffused gene. A corn can be Diffused without being pied but can't be a pied unless it is also Diffused. Here is a Diffused pied I just hatched that surprised me with the pied! Knew dad was either probably het or very low expression pied but didn't know about mom.

This doesn't make any sense genetically in snakes thus far. More likely the pied gene also gives a diffused look and it isn't the diffused gene directly.

Also likely is the pied gene popped up in diffused snakes and that's why so many have the look, the originals were all diffused homozygous or heterozygous for the gene.

Right, I don't know much or understand anything I do know about pied, lol. It's an odd gene for sure and as far as I know no one has managed to decouple it. Diffused/Bloodred is a messed up gene/name itself, because the "look" the original name Bloodred covered, was actually a bunch of genes in concert, Red Coat or Red Factor, Masque and the actual Diffused gene together. Took quite awhile to pinpoint all of those.
