Re: considering a retic

No matter which you get, buy from a reputable breeder and state that you want a more mellow critter that tolerates being handled, and don't be dazzled by a pretty "paint job". The one who sold us...

Re: Give Me Food and Water

Ok... so you have a boa constrictor imperator (BCI) in a glass tank at lower than optimum temperatures with heat lamps providing what little heat she's getting, which means your humidity is likely...

Re: considering a retic

Burms don't get quite as long but they get thick. They're also known for being more chilled out than retics are.

I do have an SD male retic and two 50% SD females, none are at all cage aggressive...

Re: Give Me Food and Water

How long have you had her? Did you produce her, buy her locally, or was she shipped? Have you asked her prior owner for help? Did her prior owner send a feed card or tell you what she was eating...

Re: considering a retic

Obviously thanks to retics recently being added to the Lacey list you are stuck with in-state sellers. Fortunately you have three reputable breeders in Wisconsin: Vital Exotics, Gavin Bowe, and...

Re: Nix for mites advice

As an FYI, Provent-A-Mite (PAM) is 0.5% permethrin, so it is twice as strong as the NIX spray you purchased. If used in the same manner as PAM, it should have been fine.

Re: What kind of reptile would do well in a 13 gallon tank?

A Savu python could live in it for quite a while. I have an 18 month old male that is still doing just fine in a six quart tub.

Re: RANT JerryTheSnakeman & Geralo at Large

"Cancelled for a higher-rated story" = "we figured out the public doesn't care about reptiles". Probably a good thing to let the whole mess be pushed from the spotlight at this point.

Oh don't...

Re: JerryTheSnakeman with Geraldo Rivera

Cool! And if I had CATV or Dish I'd watch it, but we don't get commercial programs (by choice). Maybe they'll host it online somewhere.

As for why I suggested bringing a BP as well:
Ball...

Re: JerryTheSnakeman with Geraldo Rivera

Congrats! Will this be a live or taped program? Are you going to their studio or are they coming to you for the interview?

Instead of bringing the two giants, I would suggest bringing the burm...

Re: hello, I'm new! What do you think of ball pythons?

Ah, that would be my MBK. Fortunately she's small enough that when she does end up biting it's merely annoying.

Re: Under tank heater

Under half to 1/3 of the terrarium, and always regulated by a thermostat so it doesn't fry your critters.

Re: hello, I'm new! What do you think of ball pythons?

Any particular reason why? The hognose I can understand, but my Cali King is very easy to care for, tolerates being handled, and eats his f/t feeders like clockwork.

Re: Snake owners on Craigslist

There are rare occasions where you can find gems on CL, but they are few and far between.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I've found it useful, though I do put my hip waders on before reading. ;)

Re: Considering a Garter

I would suggest researching all of them on the Fauna BOI before doing business.

Re: So .. change.

Yes, it will be, but sometimes you have to take steps to put yourself in a better place before you can keep up with the responsibility of having animals. I hope this move works out for you.

Re: Sick cali king...PLZ HELP!!!!

1) King snakes don't get IBD. Many other diseases mimic IBD, especially at the end as the snakes have seizures or stargaze as they die.

2) If it were IBD (which I don't believe it is) and you...

Kudos on the rescue and I really hope you can bring this poor guy back to good health.

I'm going to back up Aaron's recommendation to use the Nix. Here in the US we can also get PAM which is a...

Re: 0.1 and 1.0? and a little extra quick question

I imagine it's useful for breeders when describing clutches, since it's faster to type or write 2.3.1.6 instead of 2 males, 3 females, 1 unsexed, and 6 eggs.
