Kim, the information Zoo Nanny gave you is 100% spot on. I know with our African grey sleep is a big key to happiness. I have to put Boomer to bed no later than 7pm and wake him up at 7am otherwise...

Re: UTH and platic tub enclosure

A glass tank is fine as long as you don't have a screen lid and you cover 3 sides of the glass with something to offer them more security. Normally tubs are easier to use due to less modification...

Re: Should I sanitize these driftwood?

If It was something you picked up outside I wouldn't bother cleaning it. However everything I buy from a pet shop gets sprayed with mite treatment before being placed in my vivs.

Re: Tank Advice??

My snakes love cardboard boxes, toilet paper rolls, paper towel tubes, tissue boxes. Anything like that is perfectly fine as long as you change it when it gets dirty and you dont have high humidity....

Re: Nighttime activity

I used to have my snakes all in my bedroom. With the addition of Bren my great dane I had to move my snakes around to make room for his crate. My son happily took 4 of the 5 snakes into his room. I...

Re: Tank Advice??

I wouldn't worry to much about hides and filling in the tank. You seem to have a good layer of aspen for him to burrow into. I don't think my corn ever used hides until he was about 3ft or larger....

New rescue Painted Turtle :)

So about a week back I got a phone call that I needed to rescue a tiny baby painted turtle. It was found in the middle of a parking lot a few miles away from any real water source. Once I got to it I...

Re: How tame is your GTP?!

I have a 5yr old Biak and no matter the time or day he will try to eat you. If you walk by his viv he will strike at the door. I have handled him twice in the last 4 yrs and will continue to only...

Re: He's only bloody eating!!!

Rob I am waiting out my GTP right now still. He stopped eating just after Dec 15 2012 and I started offering him rats again the first week of march. He is still refusing though. We just moved and I...

Re: What to do in a power outage?

I have never really worried about power outages even though we get them fairly often in the winter but I have a generator and a fire place. I also always have on hand some heat packs. I keep my...

Re: Need help on new viv.

Did the viv get sanded down and really cleaned before new varnish was put on?

Just taking it down and doing a major clean, sanding and re-varnish could fix it. I wouldn't just go with a bio...

Re: Keeping sides of bin locked

Binder clips are the way to go.. you can even take a thin piece of wood and place it under the lip of the bin to make the lid lock on more secure.

Re: diy rack system

The ones I have seen are very flimsy. I wouldn't trust one to contain my royals. I could easily see my royal bending the plastic on those and getting out.

Re: providing heat at night or not?

Yes I provide heat 24/7. You need to give them a warm spot and a cool spot so that they can choose what they need. In the wild I am sure they know how to find the warmer locations vs the cooler ones.

Re: enclosure?

I custom build all my vivs.. My GTP is kept in a 3ft tall x 3ft wide 2 ft deep Oak viv. I heat with a Radiant heat panel and I mist once a week. I offer a hot spot of 95 and a cool spot of 75.

Re: sugar glider cage

You can make anything into a cage.. Its all about safety though. I would research cages and look at how they are constructed. Keep your wire spaces ( coated hardware cloth would be a great product )...
