Re: Breeder said no heat lamps

For a corn snake I wouldn't worry about lower temps as long as the snake has access to a hot spot. Some people keep them at room temperature. The CHE will boost the ambient temps but will also...

Re: Best terrarium setup for a young corn snake

I don't pay much attention to humidity requirements for most of my snakes, especially colubrids. If your snake is properly hydrated then ambient humidity should be fine. That said, I do think a...

Re: Just got first snake

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new boa. I’m not an expert on boa genetics but hopefully someone will chime in on that. Boas are really fun snakes. I think you picked a great first snake. I...

Re: California Kingsnake Tank Humidity

If he’s had a few meals in him then it’s fine to handle him. Just wait 2-3 days after he’s eaten. He’s still young so he might be a bit flighty for a while but he should mellow out with time. It...

Re: California Kingsnake Tank Humidity

My kings weren’t on pinkys for more than a month before I moved them up to fuzzys.

Re: California Kingsnake Tank Humidity

I agree that it takes at least a few weeks for new snakes to acclimate to a new environment. I’d suggest leaving the snake completely alone and just let him get comfortable. My kings hid quite a bit...

Re: California Kingsnake Tank Humidity

Kings, like most snakes, don't need high humidity but the ranges you have won't hurt him at all.

Re: Hognose won't come out of his burrow

Welcome to the forum Helena. Congrats on the new hoggie. They're so cute :). If you just got him, and his temps/husbandry are dialed in, I'd advise just leaving him alone for a couple of weeks except...

Re: Feeding advice?

I think feeding an adult BP a large rat weekly is a bit much. My 8’ olive, 8’ bullsnake, and 7’ scrub don’t eat that often. I feed my pythons and colubrids weekly for the first year. My boas eat...

Re: Four month old ball python only 83 grams

If he’s eating every 7 days consistently then I wouldn’t change anything especially with a BP. They can be finicky eaters and offering food too often could actually cause them to stop eating. 84g...

Re: California King Snake not eating

Lots of snakes are going off food this time of year. My colubrids and carpets do it every year. If your temps are dialed in, the animal isn’t losing much weight, or showing other signs of illness...

Re: Baby king snake eating backwards

I wouldn’t worry about it too much as long as he’s eating and keeping it down. One of my carpets has eaten his last two meals tail first and those were large rats. I figure they know their limits...
