Re: New Dumeril's

Good looking dumerils. It's hard to imagine that mine was that small just a short time ago.

My guess is that she is closer to 14 - 16 months. My dumerils was about 750g and 38" at 14 months while...

Re: Helppppp!

Also, be careful with the bath water temperature. What is warm to you is far too hot for a snake.

Re: Heat Mat voltage?

Lets assume you bought a 1000W heating pad.
A typical heater is just a length of filament with a given resistance.

Power = current * voltage
current = power / voltage = 1000W / 220V = 4.5A

Re: Dumeril's boa losing scales, no mites.

I would recommend replacing the astro turf with 2-3 inches of shredded aspen. Dumeril's like to burrow and the aspen will help to retain some humidity. Also, if you haven't already, cover the...

Re: Dumeril's Boa

I just switched to small rats for the last three feedings. Mine has only refused once when she was just about to shed, but she has eaten during shed before. I'll look forward to the growth spurt...

Re: Dumeril's Boa

TurboChris,

Sorry to hijack, but are you sure your dumerils is only a year old. I have one as well that I bought at 3 months at 145g and is now a year old, 500g and 3ft. I have been trying to find...

Re: HELP, Flexwatt shocking cage NEED HELP

Another option would be to fix it to the table or stand that the tank is sitting on.

Re: Ball Python help!

How often are you handling her? It sounds like you might be over handling her, resulting in her becoming irritated and striking at you. I would recommend once or twice a week at most for now. It may...

Re: mixing heat elements for large cage(cold room)

I mentioned heating the cool side because my cold side can dip into the upper 60's even with a RHP and flexwatt on the hot side heating the ambient air. I have a 106 Qt Sterlite tub with a 40W RHP...

Re: mixing heat elements for large cage(cold room)

I use two because I have fairly deep aspen substrate and the room can get very cold (65).

For you, since it doesn't sound like you have a snake that burrows, I think that the RHP over the hot side...

Re: How long to thaw pinkies

What are the temps (hot/cold)?
How did you thaw out the pinkie?
Did you handle the snake prior to feeding?

General consensus is to wait at least 5-7 days before attempting to feed in a new home...

Re: mixing heat elements for large cage(cold room)

I feel two heating sources would be fine but I would not control two different sources with one thermostat. Different sources heat at different rates so they should therefore be controlled...

Tiny snakes

I just found this little guy outside and I thought it would be interesting to see other tiny snakes found in the wild.

Re: dumeril boa...... help

I forgot to add, I don't see a proper hide in your setup. Although the deep substrate is nice, I would recommend that you switch to a heat mat on a thermostat and leave that on non-stop at about 88F....

Re: dumeril boa...... help

Also, don't bother with mice. Dumeril's can eat rat pinkies from birth, and judging bu the size of yours it might be ready for rat pups. Your snake may be used to rats and doesn't care for the small...

Re: Dumeril's a good choice ?

I think the deep substrate would work best. The purpose is to leap out at prey, although mine does not do that. During the day she is in her hide and at night she is beneath the shavings. I believe...

Re: Dumeril's a good choice ?

I was asking myself the same sort of questions about 6 months ago. I ended up getting a 3 month old female Dumeril's in March. The advantages are that they are very slow growers, you will maybe see 3...
