Re: Importing a Garter snake to the USA

I've never gotten anything from Europe, but it shouldn't be an issue. I have an infernalis coming from Canada next week (It's actually for my daughter).

Re: Unknown snake by children's bus stop

It is 100% NOT a rattlesnake or any other venomous snake. If you don't know, you shouldn't guess. Causing unwarranted fear can get snakes killed for no reason.

This is an eastern milksnake.

Re: Milk snake identification

I'd guess Honduran, but there are so many tri colored lampropeltis it's difficult to say. It looks like a Honduran to me though. But, I'm not very experienced with them. Someone who is could probably...

Re: Any way to ID Snake Egg species?

I'm not seeing any photos. But, copperheads (and all the rest of our North American pit vipers) give live birth. The only venomous snake in the US that lays eggs is the coral snake.

Re: Herping Videos and photos 2019

Thanks, guys!

I appreciate the compliments, but my footage and orations definitely both need a lot of work. But, I figure the more videos/info out there showing snakes in a good light, the...

Timber Rattlesnake

My reputation as a snake lover/wrangler has spread through a lot of my wife's friends. One of them called last weekend and asked if I wanted to come get this timber rattlesnake before they killed it....

Re: Help with Snake Identification!

It's a rat snake (Pantherophis sp.). Where he came from originally will tell you exactly which of the three species.

Re: Wild-caught vs. Captive-bred

I agree with this. I think there's a disconnect with most younger people and any sort of hunting/collecting from the wild. Managed correctly, it's perfectly sustainable. I know people are going to...

Re: Help making "wooden" enclosure for BPs

That shelf is made of MDF, which has a coating on it to prevent moisture from getting to the wood. That's great, as long as it works. Because if MDF does get wet, it's ruined. So, assuming you aren't...

Re: What snake between these two do you guys recommend?

Nothing wrong with either of them, although "corn snakes" are a species and "king snakes" are an entire genus. You didn't specify which species of king snake you're interested in, although most of...

Re: Help needs - identify snake

That's a gorgeous Northern water snake (Nerodia sipedon). Harmless fish and amphibian eater, as the others said.

Re: Which species?

Of those, for myself, I'd probably go with the gray-banded king. But, that's just because I like the more rare stuff. As far as a pet, I don't think the corn snake can be beaten. A lot of people will...

Re: CB Rough Green Snakes

I've kind of thought about trying to breed them. I have a paludarium set up that I had one in. It, unfortunately, refused to eat and died. It was, of course, wild caught, and I got it at a show. I'm...

Re: Need some adive please.

Snakes aren't for everyone.

You should understand that your snake doesn't "enjoy" getting out. At best, it tolerates it, or is comfortable with it. More likely, it feels exposed and...

Re: Herping Videos and photos 2019

Thanks!

It depends on weather and temps, but I mostly just get out there and look a lot. Flipping cover is great if there is any. Edges where different habitats meet is a good place to look....

Re: Herping Videos and photos 2019

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely need to speak louder. I've been filming with my phone, which doesn't help either. I'm hoping to upgrade my ancient DSLR camera soon to one with video and use that instead.
